39 研 究 Research 訊息科學 Information Sciences 開創性編碼研究 Pioneering Research on Networking 工程學院於二零零七年成立全球首個網絡編碼和資訊研究中心,進行了一系列開 創性研究,涵蓋網絡編碼糾錯、網絡編碼之環論基礎、安全網絡編碼等。中心於 二零零八年一月主辦第四屆NetCod 研討會,主題圍繞網絡編碼理論及計算、多 使用者資訊理論,以及網絡編碼應用。 The Network Coding and Information Research Centre, the first dedicated research centre in the field in network coding, was founded under the Faculty of Engineering in 2007. It has been pioneering research on network error correction, ring-theoretic foundation of network coding, and secure network coding. In January 2008, the Fourth NetCod Workshop was organized by the centre covering the topics of network coding theory and algorithms, multi-user information theory and applications of network coding. 經濟與金融 Economics and Finance 機構制度對財困公司的影響 Influence of Institutional Factors on Distressed Firms 該研究由經濟金融研究中心主任范博宏教授領導,旨在探討在新興市場,機構制 度對出現財政困難公司的影響。結果顯示出現財困的公司,其國營擁有權成分愈 少,公司的運作表現會愈佳,亦可較快復甦。該論文榮獲二零零七年中國國際財 務研討會最佳論文獎;范教授另一篇關於縱向合併的論文,亦獲得二零零七年 TCFA-CICC最佳論文獎冠軍。 The research, led by Prof. Joseph P.H. Fan, director, Centre of Economics and Finance, aims at investigating how institutional factors influence behaviour of distressed firms in emerging markets. It finds that distressed companies with less state ownership structure display relatively better operating performance and higher ultimate recovery likelihood. The paper was awarded the Best Paper Award of the 2007 China International Conference. Prof. Fan’s another paper about vertical integration also won the First Prize of the 2007 TCFA-CICC Best Paper Award. 開發先進雷達衞星遙感技術 監測城市地表形變 Development of Advanced Radar Satellite Remote Sensing Technology for Monitoring Urban Ground Deformation 該項目的目標是建立先進的雷達衞星遙感地面沉降監測技術(A-PSI),勘察城市地 表形變。新技術除了應用於線性地表,還可擴展至如山泥傾瀉等非線性形變,並且 在中國和亞洲城市等只有小量雷達遙感存檔影像的地區,也可應用。項目所開發的 技術和資訊服務可讓政府及私營建築公司採用,為本地公司開拓更多內地商機。 This project aims to develop the Advanced Satellite Permanent Scatterers Interferometry (A-PSI), an advanced radar satellite remote sensing technology, in the region to monitor urban ground deformation. A-PSI can be applied in linear and non-linear deformation (e.g. landslide) scenarios. Moreover, A-PSI can also be applied to areas of interest even with limited archive images (e.g., China and other countries in Asia). The developed technologies and services can be adopted by the various parties in the local construction industry including public and private organizations and will bring new business opportunities to the local industry to engage the engineering consultancy business in China. 地球信息與地球科學 Geoinformation and Earth Sciences
