It examines the communication practices and effectiveness of employees as reflected by their company’s training programmes for newly promoted supervisors and managers in front-line positions. Through the research, they will gain a clearer understanding of how management communication training can help to increase employee and organizational effectiveness. It also has significant implications for the teaching of expository business writing to tourism and business students. Ethnographic Study of Nepalese Women in Hong Kong The research, carried out by Prof. Maria Tam Siu-mi, Department of Anthropology, studies the Nepalese community in postcolonial Hong Kong, highlighting the interface of gender, ethnic minority identity, and transnational mobility among three generations of women. Data show that Nepalese women in general suffer from double social marginalization — by mainstream ethnic Chinese society and male members of their own ethnic group. The significance of the project lies in its relevance for understanding the social exclusion and ghettoization of South Asians in Hong Kong, which results in the aggravation of ethnic stereotypification and deterioration of social harmony. The study argues that positive change in ethnic relations in Hong Kong must be based on gender-aware policy and the inclusion of ethnic minorities as partners of change. Faculty of Business Administration
