Annual Report 2007–08

50 Partnership with Schools The Centre for University and School Partnership (CUSP) of the Faculty of Education celebrated its 10th anniversary in the year under review. CUSP has established partnerships with over 600 kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to promote quality education in the midst of education reforms. Stressing both theory and practice, CUSP has won acclaims from the education sector for enhancing the quality of teaching. In 2008, CUSP succeeded in obtaining HK$10 million from the Education Bureau (EDB) to embark on a two- year school improvement and curriculum leadership project named ‘School Improvement Project for Early Childhood Education’, which aims at helping 60 kindergartens to develop a reflective culture for sustained improvement. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, supported by CUSP, also obtained an EDB grant of HK$13 million to launch the two-year ‘Support for Transition to the Implementation and Leadership of Liberal Studies’ project which provides school- based support to 52 secondary schools for a smooth transition to the New Senior Secondary Curriculum in 2009. In 2007–08, the ‘Accelerated Schools for Quality Education’ project led by Prof. John C.K. Lee, director of CUSP, won the Quality Education Fund (QEF) Outstanding Project Award. The three-year project helped participating schools to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and to map strategic development priorities by means of a university–school partnership model in three dimensions: school administration, curriculum and teaching, parents and community. It received over HK$60 million from the QEF in 1998, one of the highest amounts awarded since the inception of the fund and served 50 schools, benefiting over 60,000 teachers, students and parents. 教育學院李子建教授(中)及 鍾宇平教授(左)領獎 Prof. John C.K.
