10 In March 2010, the University also submitted a non-binding letter of intent to the Hong Kong SAR Government to express our intention of establishing a private non-profit hospital in Tai Po to provide patient-centred, quality healthcare services to the community. Institutional Advancement I am also pleased to report that as of 1 June 2010, the first day of the latest round of the government matching grant scheme, the University already received donations exceeding the maximum amount eligible for government matching. Cumulatively, over the past six years, the University has attracted donations in excess of HK$3 billion, including government matching grants. This is also testimony of the support enjoyed by the University for its programmes among private individuals and organizations inside and outside Hong Kong. Joy and Glory Together with the rest of Hong Kong and ethnic Chinese populations around the world, the University community witnessed the jubilant occasion in Stockholm in December 2009 when our beloved former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles K. Kao, received the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics. It was a glorious moment shared by all of us. Professor and Mrs. Kao returned to campus in February, bestowed the Nobel medal to the University, and inaugurated the exhibition dedicated to his stellar achievement and contributions at the University Library. In March, the Kao’s led a throng of 3,000 students, staff, alumni and members of the public at the walkathon on campus which raised over HK$3 million for student scholarships. 籌募成績 我也很高興向大家報告，截至二零一零年 六月一日止，即政府最新一輪配對補助金 計劃開始的首天，中大籌得的捐款已超過 配對補助金的最高資助額。過去六年累積 下來，大學籌得的款項，包括政府的配對 補助金，已超過三十億港元。這也證明本 校的課程深得本港和外地私人和企業的 支持。 喜悅與光榮 二零零九年十二月，深受本校師生愛戴的 前校長高錕教授在斯德哥爾摩接過諾貝 爾物理學獎，全體中大人、香港市民和世 界各地的華人一同見證這個令人動容的時 刻，都感到與有榮焉。高錕教授伉儷在二 零一零年二月回校，把諾貝爾獎牌獻給中 大。大學在大學圖書館舉行展覽，向公眾 介紹他的成就和貢獻，承蒙他光臨揭幕。 到了三月，高教授伉儷又帶領三千名學 生、教職員、校友和公眾人士漫步校園籌 款，籌得超過港幣三百萬元設立獎學金。
