38 服務與關懷 Service Trip to Vietnam New Asia College Rotaract Club organizes service trips to different places of the world every year to raise its members’ awareness of world affairs and increase their exposure to different cultures. This year, the club organized a service trip to the Hai Duong Welfare Center in Vietnam. The center provides services to children between 6 to 18 years old in Hai Duong province. Twenty-five CUHK students visited the center from 27 December 2011 to 3 January 2012, providing English classes to the children there. They designed their activities in accordance with the children’s education level. By singing English nursery rhymes with the children, the students taught them English vocabulary and simple daily phrases. They also organized handicraft classes to stimulate the children’s creativity and boost their self-confidence. The students also supported the staff of the centre by cleaning their kitchen, washing the floor, etc. As their visit to the centre spanned 2011 and 2012, CUHK students threw a new year party for the children, and showed them pictures of Hong Kong’s streets, landscape and food to increase their understanding of the city, thus promoting cultural exchange between the two places.
