It has been prepared for the University’s governing body, the University community itself, the extended family of University alumni, and the Hong Kong community at large. Here I shall concentrate on only the major issues, while the ensuing pages and the appendices provide all the details. University Development The year under review saw the completion and commissioning of a number of buildings and facilities of landmark significance, among them research and teaching amenities, and the premises of the Lee Woo Sing College. Some of these facilities, located at the Faculty of Medicine, are open to the public and have been established not only to supplement teaching and research, but also to upgrade services to patients in the respective specialties. While large-scale construction works associated with the restoration of the four-year undergraduate curriculum had mostly been completed by the end of the year before, with the smooth transition of the entire University into the new system, there were still sufficient projects ongoing, within the year under review, to signify progress and growth, and to give substance to our determination to cease effort only when perfection is reached. When one surveys the landmark fabrics and facilities which came to be erected and opened during the past year, one cannot help being grateful to the many benefactors whose munificence, in the form of donations, endowments, gifts and other modes of sponsorship, had helped to make these 本年報全面記述中文大學過去一年的學術 活動和社會服務，也記載同一時期舉行的 特別慶祝活動，以廣告大學管理層、大學社 群、廣大校友，乃至全香港社會。我在這裏 集中談幾個主要問題，而下文和附錄會提 供詳細資料。 大學發展 在過去一年，校內多座堪稱地標的建築物 和設施落成啟用，包括教研設施和李和聲 書院校舍。有些位於醫學院的設施是向公 眾開放的，設立的目的不只是幫助教學和 研究，還為提升不同醫學專科為病人提供 的服務。與恢復四年學制有關的大型建設 工程，大多已於去年年底完成，令大學順利 過渡至新學制，但在本年度還有不少項目正 在進行，標誌着大學的進步與發展，也是我 們決意止於至善的實證。 看到這些去年建成啟用的地標建築和設 施，我們不禁感激眾多熱心贊助中大的友 好，全賴他們以捐款、餽贈和其他方式慷慨 支持，這些新建築物和設施才得以建成。 事實上，中文大學在過去五十年，得蒙古道 熱腸的社會領袖鼎力支持，沒有他們的贊 助，大學的發展之路肯定會大不相同，也艱 辛得多。在過去一年，我們的籌款努力也因 政府推出第六輪配對基金而事半功倍。
