8 嘉年良辰且盡歡 While we revel in the celebratory events and admire the grandeur of the ceremonies marking the 50th anniversary, it is also a time for us to reflect on how the University must proceed in the years to come. While the University will not cease from its pursuit for excellence, and continue to seek excellence in teaching and research, we will do so purely for the sake of academic progress, for scientific advancement, and ultimately, for the relevance of what we do to the welfare of mankind. Other considerations and factors which may be highly prized at other organizations, but which are extraneous to genuine academic and scientific worth, will not feature prominently in our book. This determination to seek academic excellence, coupled with a heightened social consciousness and the willingness to care and serve, will form the core values of all members of the Chinese University. These simple goals will inform our policies and plans for future development, in the hope that the University will continue to be one that is truly at the service of the people. 關心社會，以服務和關懷弱勢群體為己任， 將成為所有中大人秉持的基本原則。這些 純粹的目標會引領本校政策和未來發展 計劃，令中大繼續成為真正為民謀福的 學府。
