The next (2016–17) reporting period marks the beginning of the UGC’s 2016–19 triennial planning cycle / period. Whilst our Academic Development Proposal (ADP) for 2016–19 was extremely well received and justly rewarded by means of funded student places, preparation for the next ADP will need to begin in the 2017 calendar year. Discussions with faculty members have already started to generate ideas for new, innovative and inter- / multi-disciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that meet student demands and societal needs. The role of our School of Continuing and Professional Studies will also be reviewed so that more lifelong learning programmes will be launched to serve the needs of the ageing population and second career trends in Hong Kong. Our vision in research is to be recognized as a centre of excellence for developing cutting-edge research and emerging interdisciplinary strengths that have global impact and significant contributions to society. In this connection, we have identified four major research areas of China Studies, Translational Biomedicine, Information & Automation Technology, and Environment & Sustainability, which in turn are further prioritized in 16 cross-cutting themes. Our strategies to be implemented during the next reporting period are to build multidisciplinary teams in focused areas to create synergy and to team up with international strategic partners in creating a new research landscape to complement areas of expertise. Resource allocation will play an important role in prioritizing the University’s strategic initiatives. Earmarked funds have been identified to help us recruit and retain top-notched academics, and to enhance development in our strategic areas of research and teaching, as well as consolidate global partnerships. Investments have been made to increase the number of research postgraduate students to reach a critical mass. We will continue to enhance our campus infrastructure and facilities, and to strengthen the IT governance to improve strategy for management information and enhance the IT infrastructure. 下年度( 2016 至 17 )為教資會 2016 至 19 年三年撥款期之首年。中大 2016 至 19 年「學術發展建議」獲得 甚佳評價,故此獲得更多資助學額, 但我們須於 2017 年着手籌備下一份 「學術發展建議」。大學已開始與教 研人員商討,構思適合學生和社會需 要的創新、跨學科本科及研究生課 程。我們更將檢視香港中文大學專 業進修學院的角色,並因應人口老化 及須轉換行業人士日益增加,推出 更多終身學習課程。 中大在研究方面的遠景,是躋身世 界級大學之列,並以卓越優秀的科 研成就,銳意開拓嶄新跨學科研究, 貢獻全球,造福社群。有鑑於此, 大學選出中國研究、轉化醫學、資 訊與自動化科技、環境與持續發展 為四大研究範疇,並進一步訂出十 六項優先研究的跨學科主題。在下 一年度,我們將致力建立跨學科團 隊,與國際夥伴合作,開拓嶄新研究 領域。 資源分配是大學發展方略重要的一 環。大學已預備資金作延聘和挽留一 流學者,改善重點項目之教研水平, 建立更鞏固的全球夥伴關係。我們 已投入資源,招收更多研究生,滙 聚人才。大學也將繼續改善校園基 建設施,加強資訊科技的管治,以提 升資訊管理策略及改善資訊科技的 基建。 未來發展及展望 Future Development and Prospects 10 香港中文大學年報 CUHK Annual Report 2015–2016
