思潮交會 Conf luence of Intellectual Currents Scholars from Hong Kong and beyond gathered at CUHK to open up new avenues for research and scholarship. Seminar on Sign and Spoken Languages CUHK’s Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies is the first academic institution specializing in sign linguistics research and deaf training in the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre organized the Distinguished Scholars Seminars ‘Sign Bilingualism: Scientific Evidence and Educational Applications’ in August 2015. Keynote speakers from the US provided the participants with insights on the benefits to both hearing impaired and normal children of using both sign and spoken languages and the new possibilities of supporting children in need. Conference on Age-friendly Communities The Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Ageing at CUHK held its Launch Conference ‘Creating Age-Friendly Communities’ in October 2015. Three hundred academics in gerontology and representatives from organizations in the field, who came from the US, Singapore, Japan, mainland China and Hong Kong, shared their experiences and discussed the various aspects of the theme. 來自香港和外地的學者在中大聚首一 堂,開闢研究和學術的新路向。 手語及口語研討會 中大手語及聾人研究中心是亞太區 首間專門研究手語語言學及培訓聾 人的學術機構。該中心在 2015 年 8 月 舉辦題為「手語雙語:科學實證和教 學應用」的傑出學者講座,來自美國 的專題講者向與會者講解同時使用 手語和口語為聽障和一般兒童帶來 的優點,並提出協助有需要兒童的 新方法。 長者友善社區研討會 中大賽馬會老年學研究所在 2015 年 10 月舉辦主題為「共建長者友善社 區」的研討會,有三百位來自美國、 新加坡、日本、中國內地及香港的老 年學學者及相關機構代表出席,從 不同角度探討建設長者友善社區的 議題,並交流經驗。 37 精研憑格物 推陳以致知 Research—Pushing Knowledge Frontiers
