A l l persons who become graduates of the Un i v e r s i ty shall be entitled to have their names entered on the Convocation r o l l: P r o v i d ed that persons o n w h om a degree honoris causa has been conferred shall not solely by reason thereof, be members of Convocation, b u t ma y be elected by Convocation to be members thereof. 3. A n y person w h o obtains a d i p l om a issued by the Post-Secondary Colleges Joint D i p l o ma Board i n the academic year of establishment of the Un i v e r s i ty shall be entitled to have his name entered on the Convocation roll. 4. T h e Convocatio n shall f r om its o wn members elect a Ch a i r man and may elect a Vice- Ch a i r man w h o shall respectively h o ld office for such periods as the Convocation may determine. N o memb er shall be eligible for election as Ch a i r ma n or V i c e - Ch a i r man unless he is n o rma l ly resident in H o n g K o n g. A n y r e t i r i ng Ch a i r man or V i c e - Ch a i r man shall be eligible for re-election. 5. I n case of any casua l vacancy in the offic e of Ch a i r man or V i c e - Ch a i r ma n, the Convocation shall elect one of its members to fill the vacancy and the person so elected shall hold office for the remainder of the t e rm for w h i ch his predecessor was appointed. 6. T h e Registrar shall be the Secretary of the Convocatio n and shall keep the r o ll thereof. 7. T h e Convocation shall f r om a date to be appointed by the Co u n c il elect three of its members to be members of the Co u n c il p r o v i d ed that no person w h o holds an a p p o i n t me nt ill the Un i v e r s i ty or i n any of the Colleges or who is a memb er of the Board of Governors of any of the Colleges shall be eligible for suc h election. 8. T h e Convocation shall meet at least once i n each calendar year and notice of such meeting shall be given f o ur weeks before the date of meeting . A n y memb er desiring to b r i ng f o r wa rd any business thereat shall f o r wa rd a statement i n w r i t i ng to reach the Secretary at least three weeks before the date of meeting, setting f o r t h i n the f o r m of motions the subject or subjects proposed for consideration. 9. T h e q u o r um at an y meeting of the Convocation shall be as prescribed by the Co u n c il after report f r om the Convocation. STATUTE 13 The Faculties 1. I n a d d i t i on to the Facultie s prescribed b y section 19 o f the Ordinance, there shall be a Faculty of Comme r ce and Social Science. 2. T h e Vice-Chancellor and the President of each of th e Colleges shall be members of each Faculty ex officio. 3. Each A p p o i n t ed Teache r and each Recognized L e c t u r er of the Un i v e r s i ty shall be assigned by the Senate to a Fa c u l ty or Faculties and shall be a memb er of such Faculty or Faculties d u r i ng the tenure of his a p p o i n t me n t. 4. T h e member s of each Faculty shall elect i n such f o r m and manner and for such period as may be determined by the Senate one of themselve s to be De an of the Faculty. 5. T h e De an of any Faculty shall be eligible, b ut not immediately, for re-election p r o v i d ed he is still a memb er of the Faculty. 6. Each Faculty shall have the power to discuss an y matters relating to that Fa c u l ty and to express its o p i n i on thereon to the Senate. STATUTE 14 The Boards of Studies I t shall be the d u ty of each Board of Studies to advise the Senate on the courses of study w i t h in the p u r v i ew of that Board of Studies, on the a p p o i n t me nt of internal and external examiners and on such other matters as the Senat e may request. 2. Each Board of Studies shall consist o f — (a) the Vice-Chancellor ex officio; ( b) the President o f each of the Colleges ex officio; 15
