T h e conferment of a title of Recognized L e c t u r er shall not be r e c omme n d ed by a Board of Advisers unless the members of the Board of Advisers i n categories (b) and (d) set out in paragraph 3 concur. 5. A Board of Advisers shall be constituted as follows for the a p p o i n t me nt of the Registrar — ( a ) the Vice-Chancellor, who shall be Ch a i rma n, or a deputy appointed by h i m ; (b) the Ch a i r man of the Council , or in his absence a person appointe d by the C o u n c i l; (c) the President of each of the Colleges ; (d) three members of the Senate, appointed by the Senate, one f r om each College. 6. A Board of Advisers shall be constituted as follows for the a p p o i n t me nt of the L i b r a r i a n— (a) the Vice-Chancellor , w h o shall be Ch a i rma n, or a deputy appointed by h i m ; (b) three member s of the Council, appointed by the Council, one f r om each College; (c) three members of the Senate, appointed by the Senate, one f r om each College ; (d) t wo external experts appointed by the Co u n c il who shall not be members of the academic staff of the Un i v e r s i ty or of any of the Colleges. 7. N o person shall be recommended for a p p o i n t me nt as L i b r a r i an b y a Board of Advisers unless the external experts certify i n w r i t i ng that the person to be r e c omme n d ed is of the required academic and professional standing. STATUTE 17 Honorary and Emeritus Professors 1. T h e Co u n c il may appoint Ho n o r a ry Professors and may confer the title of Eme r i t us Professor o n any Professor w h o has retire d f r om office p r o v i d ed that such a p p o i n t me nt or conferment is r e c omme n d ed by the Senate w i t h the consent of the College i n w h i ch the professorship w i l l be or has been tenable as the case may be. 2. A n H o n o r a ry or Eme r i t us Professor shall not ex officio be a memb er of the Senate or of any Faculty or of any Board of Studies. STATUTE 18 Retirement of Certain Officers and Academic Staff T h e Vice-Chancellor, all Professors, Readers and Senior Lecturers, the Registrar, the L i b r a r i an and persons h o l d i ng such other appointments made b y the Co u n c il as th e Co u n c il may d e t e rm i n e— ( a ) shall vacate their offices or appointment s b y the 30th day of September f o l l ow i ng the date on w h i c h they attain the age of sixty years unless the Co u n c il by a vote of at least t wo - t h i r ds of the n umb er of memb e rs present shall request any such person to continue i n his office or a p p o i n t me nt for such period thereafter as it shall f r om t i me to t i me determine, or (b) may retire, or u p o n the direction o f the Co u n c il shall retire, at any t i me between the ages of fifty-five and sixty. STATUTE 19 Resignations A n y person w i s h i ng to resign f r om any office or memb e r s h ip of any b o dy shall do so by notice in w r i t i ng addresse d to the Registrar. STATUTE 2 0 Removal from O f f i c e , Membership or Appointment 1. T h e Co u n c il may for good cause as defined i n paragraph 2 remove the Pro-Vice-Chancellor a — Treasurer f r om their offices and any memb er of the Co u n c il other than those referred to in paragraphs (a) and (h) of section 11 of the O r d i n a n ce f r om hi s memb e r s h ip of th e Co u n c i l. 17
