2. " G o o d cause’’ i n paragraph 1 means— (a) conviction of any felony or misdemeanour w h i ch shall be j u d g ed b y the Co u n c il to be of an i mmo r a l, scandalous or disgraceful nature; (b) actual physical or me n t al incapacity w h i ch shall be j u d g ed b y the Co u n c il to prevent the proper execution of the duties of th e office or memb e r s h ip ; or (c) any conduct w h i ch shall be j u d g e d by the Co u n c il to be of an i mmo r a l, scandalous or disgraceful nature. 3. T h e Co u n c il may for good cause as defined i n paragraph 5 remove f r om their appointments the Vice-Chancellor, and Professor or Reader o r Senior L e c t u r e r , the L i b r a r i a n, the Registrar and any other person h o l d i ng i n the Un i v e r s i ty an academic or administrative a p p o i n t me nt made by the Co u n c i l. 4. T h e Co u n c i l may and shall i f requested b y the person concerned or by any three members of the Co u n c il before such removal appoint a committee consisting of the Ch a i r man of the Council, t wo other members of the Co u n c il and three members of the Senate to examine the complaint and to report to the Co u n c il thereon. 5. ‘ ‘ Go od cause" i n paragraph 3 means— (a) conviction of any felony or misdemeanour w h i ch the Co u n c il after consideration if necessary of a report of the Comm i t t ee referred t o in paragraph 4 shall deem to be of an i mmo r a l, scandalous or disgraceful nature; (b) actual physical or mental incapacity w h i ch the Co u n c il after consideration i f necessary of a report of the committee referred t o i n paragrap h 4 shall deem to be such as to render the person concerned u n f it for the execution of the duties of his office or appointment; (c) conduct of an i mmo r a l, scandalous or disgraceful nature w h i ch the Co u n c il after consideration if necessary of a report of the committee referred to i n paragraph 4 shall deem to be such as to render the person concerned u n f it to continue to h o ld his office or a p p o i n t me n t; (d) conduct w h i ch the Co u n c il after consideration i f necessary of a report of the committee referred to i n paragraph 4 shall consider to be suc h as to constitute failure or i n a b i l i ty to p e r f o rm the duties of his office or a p p o i n t me nt or to c omp ly w i t h the conditions of the tenure of his office or a p p o i n t me n t. 6. Subject to the terms of his a p p o i n t me n t no person referred to i n paragraph 3 shall be removed f r om his a p p o i n t me nt save for good cause as defined i n paragraph 5 and in pursuance of the procedure specified i n paragraph 4. STATUTE 2 1 The Students and Associate Students 1. N o student shall be p e r m i t t ed to pursue an approved course of study for a Bachelor's degree of the Un i v e r s i ty unless he shall have-- (a) been a dm i t t ed by and to one of the Colleges; (b) been registered as a matriculated student of the Un i v e r s i t y; and (c) satisfied such othe r requirements for admission to the course as shal l have been prescribed by regulation. 2. No t w i t h s t a n d i ng paragraph 1 , the Senate shall have power to regard as matriculated students of the Un i v e r s i ty and a dm it to approved courses of study for a Bachelor's degree students w h o have been a dm i t t ed to courses i n the F o u n d a t i on Colleges before the date of the establishment of the Un i v e r s i t y. 3. N o student shall be p e r m i t t ed to pursu e an approved course of advanced study or research leading to a higher degree of the Un i v e r s i ty unless he shall have— (a) been a dm i t t ed b y and to one of the Colleges ; ( b) been registered as an advanced student of the Un i v e r s i ty ; and (c) satisfied such othe r requirements for admission to the course as shall have been prescribed by Regulation. 18
