4. N o student shall be p e r m i t t ed to pursue an approved course of study or research not leading to a degree or d i p l oma of the Un i v e r s i ty unless he shall have— (a) been registered as an associate student of the Un i v e r s i ty or of a College ； and (b) satisfied such other requirements for admission to the course as shall have been prescribed by regulation. 5. Each student shall b e subject to the disciplinary c o n t r ol of the Un i v e r s i ty except w i t h i n the College of w h i c h he is a memb e r . 6. Wh e re a College expels or suspends a student, the Senate shall, w i t h i n a period of t wo mo n t hs of the order of such expulsio n or suspension, consider the case and shall, i f it t h i nk fit, expel or suspend the student concerned f r om the Un i v e r s i t y. 7. T h e Un i v e r s i ty may demand and receive f r om any student such fees as the Co u n c il may f r om t i me to t i me determine. 8. T h e Senate shall f r om t i me to t i me determine the requirements w h i c h mu st be fulfilled for ma t r i c u l a t i on as a student of the Un i v e r s i t y . 9. T h e re shall be a Un i v e r s i ty Students U n i o n . T h e constitution, functions, privileges and other matters relating to such U n i o n shall be subject to the approval of the Co u n c i l. STATUTE 2 2 Degrees and Other Awards 1. T h e Un i v e r s i ty may confer the degrees of Bachelor , Ma s t er and Do c t or w i t h the designa- tions prescribed i n paragraph 2 to students w h o— (a) have attended a course of study, p r o v i d ed b y th e Un i v e r s i ty or b y one or more of the Colleges and approved by the Un i v e r s i t y; (b) have passed the appropriate examination or examinations; and (c) have c omp l i ed i n all othe r respects w i t h the requirements prescribe d therefor. 2. T h e degrees w h i ch may be conferred by the Un i v e r s i ty shall have the f o l l ow i ng designations— (a) i n the Faculty of A r t s— Bachelor of A r t s ( B . A .) Master of A r t s ( M . A . ) D o c t or of L i t e r a t u re ( D . L i t . ) (b) i n the Faculty of Science— Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Master of Science ( M . S c .) Do c t or of Science ( D . T h e Senate may by way of specia l exceptions to the conditions prescribed i n paragraph 3— ( a ) accept as part of the attendance of a student q u a l i f y i ng h i m for the conferment of the degree of Bachelor periods of attendance as a matriculated student at another university 19
