New Premises for United College To meet the rapid expansion for the 1964-65 academic year, United College has rented from Government the 2nd floor of 47’ Eastern Street, just opposite the College Main Building. The additional premises w ill provide office space and extra accommodation for seminars and tutorials. Plans are also finalised to expand its Language Laboratory. By September, the Language Laboratory w ill be expanded to thirty-booths fitted w ith the latest equipment. A new control panel w ill be installed to enable easy and instant communication between teachers and students. The College has obtained a grant of HK$34,600 from the Asia Foundation, for the purchase of the new equip­ ment. The expenses required for renovating the basement wing, in which the laboratory w ill be housed, are to be met by College funds. A lease was obtained from Government to use the entire ground floor of the Government Pathological Institute at Caine Lane which is to be converted into laboratories for physics and chemistry classes. It is expected that the premises w ill be ready for classes in September. The entire floor may accommodate more than 100 students at one time for their laboratory work.
