She was bo rn in M aine , where she attended school in the s h ip -b u ild in g c ity o f Bath and worked p a rt- tim e fo r the Bath D a ily T im es. In 1945 she received the degree o f Bachelor o f Science in Journalism , cum Iau de, from Boston U n iv e rs ity (Boston, Massachusetts), where she was elected to mem bership o f K appa T au A lpha , a national honorary jo u rn a lism society. A fte r graduation she worked in Boston as a copywriter fo r one year, firs t in a p u b lis h in g firm , then in an advertising agency. F o llow in g a year as assistant fic tio n e d ito r fo r a group o f teenage magazines fo r a N ew Y o rk C ity p u b lish in g firm , she moved to San Francisco, where her tim e was devoted to w ritin g and e d ito ria l w o rk fo r a weekly newspaper, and to freelance w ritin g o f magazine articles and stories. In 1955 M rs . F in n e rty was awarded a fellow sh ip by the F ord F ounda tion F und fo r Advancem ent o f E ducation to pa rticipate in the Project fo r the R e cruitm en t and T ra in in g o f Teachers conducted by the San Francisco U n ifie d School D is tric t. In 1956 she received a General Secondary C redential fo r the teaching o f E nglish and social studies. Since tha t year she has been teaching E nglish at W estm oor H ig h School in D a ly C ity , near San Francisco. In 1959, she received from San Francisco State College the M .A . degree in Language A rts, w ith emphasis on creative w ritin g , accompanied by an award fo r highest rank in her field. A s C hairm an o f the F irs t E nglish C u rric u lum W o rkshop in her school d is tric t in the summer o f 1964 , M rs . F in n e rty went on to serve as C o o rd in a to r o f the co n tin u in g C u rric u lum C omm ittee fo r 1964/65, charged w ith the re sp on sib ility o f re designing the E ng lish c u rric u lum fo r the fo u r high schools o f the d is tric t. D u rin g the summer o f 1964, she taught in the Speech D e pa rtm e n t programme in E nglish as a Second Language at the U n iv e rs ity o f C a liforn ia , Berkeley. Since 1959 she has done ad d itiona l graduate w o rk in the lingu istics area and, as pa rt o f the F u lb rig h t p rogramme, spent the summ er o f 1965 at Georgetown U n iv e rs ity 's In s titu te o f Languages and L ing u istics in W a sh ing to n , D .C . A t present , she is liv in g at C hung C h i College w ith her fou rte en-ye ar-o ld son, B arry. M rs. F in n e rty has obtained sabbatical leave from her school d is tric t fo r 1966/67 in order to pursue advanced graduate study in C a liforn ia . D r . H . H . H o , N ew Asi a, Physics. D r. H o received his undergraduate tra in in g at Faraday House College, L o nd on and at K in g 's College, U n iv e rs ity o f D u rham , England. A fte r graduation, he worked fo r Johnson and P h illip s, L td ., L o nd on and w ith C rom pton Parkinson (C helm sford ) L td . where he gained experience in transformers, switchgears, cables and ro ta tin g machines. In December, 1959, he joined Rotax L td ., L o n d o n , as a development engineer w o rking in th e ir research laboratories- in charge o f a num ber o f 5
