Professor T a n g is Professor of Economics at Vanderbilt Un i v e r s i t y, h a v i ng j o i n ed the staff ther e in 1954 as an instructor. He was V i s i t i ng L e c t u r er at Osaka Un i v e r s i t y, Japan, 1959-60 and V i s i t i n g Professor o f A g r i c u l t u r al Economics at Un i v e r s i ty of California, Berkeley, 1963-64. Wh i le at T h e Chinese Un i v e r s i ty o f H o n g K o n g, he is De an of the Fa c u l ty of Comme r ce a nd Social Science, D i r e c t or of Un i v e r s i t y Studies i n Economics, as well as D i r e c t or of the E c o n om ic Research Centre. Professor Paul Wienpahl Professor Paul W i e n p a hl was b o rn in Southern California. He obtained hi s B.A., M . A . and P h . D. at the Un i v e r s i ty of California, L o s Angeles. F r om 1942 to 1945 he served as a captain in the U . S. A r m y , being w i t h the M i l i t a ry Go v e r nme nt in France and Ge r ma ny d u r i ng 1944-46. F r om 1946 t o 1947 he was an I n s t r u c t or in Philosophy at U . C . L . A . F r om 1947 to 194 8 he held a similar post at N ew Y o rk Un i v e r s i t y. I n 194 8 he went to the Un i v e r s i ty of California, Santa Barbara, a s an Assistant Professor of Philosophy. I n 1954-55 he spent a year in France on a F o r d F o u n d a t i on Fellowship, s t u d y i ng existentialism. I n 1959 he we nt to K y o t o, Japan, for six mo n t hs to study Z en B u d d h i sm . T h e outcome of his w o rk was the book The Matter of Zen published in 1964. I n 1963 he was advance d to Professorship and became Ch a i r man of the De p a r t me nt of Philosophy at Santa Barbara. Professor W i e n p a hl i s c u r r e n t ly D i r e c t or of T h e Un i v e r s i ty of California S t u dy Centre in T h e Chinese Un i v e r s i t y. D u r i n g the years he has p u b l i s h e d some t we n ty articles in such journals as Mind, The Journal of Philolosophy, Analysis, Chicago Review, Philosophical Review, and he shortly expects to p u b l i sh a book on Wittgenstein. The University Bulletin of The Chinese University of Hong Kong is published and distributed free by the University Editorial Board among the University faculty and staff.
