Mr. O Pu-sheung, Administrative Assistant B o rn in H o n g K o n g in 1912, M r . O Pu-sheung received his early education in Chinese f r om a private t u t o r. He was later educated at Queen's College and the Un i v e r s i ty of H o n g K o n g, f r om wh i ch he graduated w i t h a B.A. degree in 1935. A f t er teaching for a short t i me at N am H o i M i d d le School in Canton he returned to H o n g K o n g to j o i n a Chinese i mp o r t / e x p o rt firm as secretary. D u r i ng the Japanese occupation he left for Kw e i l i n, where he served first as a censor in the Kwa n g si Provincial Go v e r nme nt and then as a translator in the B r i t i sh A r m y A i d G r o up under the c omma nd of Col. (now Sir) L i nd s ay Ride. U p on the dissolution of the G r o up in H o n g K o n g in 1945 , he was transferred to the Press Relations Office of the British M i l i t a ry Adm i n i s t r a t i o n. He soon resigned to rejoin the i mp o r t/ export f i r m as secretary. I n June 1956 he entered the H o n g K o n g Go v e r nme nt Service as a translator, f r om wh i ch he retired in September 1967 to take up an appo i n tment as an administrative assistant in this University. COLLEGE NEWS Δ N ew Asia College celebrated the 18th anniversary of its Founders' Day and the Teacher's Festival on 28 September, T h e ceremony, presided over by Dr. T . C . Ou, included speeches by M r . T s u fa Lee, Vice- Ch a i rman of the Board of Governors of the College, D r . Francis Hu t c h i n s, Senior Representative of the Ya l e - i n - Ch i na Association, M r . Hsieh T s o - y u, representative of the teaching staff, M r . Hsia Yan-san, Chairman of the A l u m n i Association of the College, and M r . Lee L a i - t o, Ch a i rman of the Student Un i o n. Δ M r . P.Y. L o , Lecturer in Business Administration, C h u ng Chi College, has been appointed by the College Co u n c il as Dean of the Faculty of A r ts to succeed D r . C.S. Tsang, who is retiring this year. M r . L o w i ll still carry his Chairmanship of the Department of Business Adm i n i s t r a t i o n. D r . H . M . Chang, Lecturer in Chemistry, has again been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science. Δ T h e I n s t i t u te of Advanced Chinese Studies and Research of N ew Asia College announced on 21 September that five candidates had passed the E n t ry Ex am i n a t i on 1967-68 for Research Assistant Trainees. O f these five, three have been granted scholarships. T h i r t y - t h r ee candidates sat for the Examination, wh i ch included graduates of T h e Chinese Un i v e r s i t y, National T a i wan Un i v e r s i t y, Fu Jen Catholic Un i v e r s i t y, C h u ng Hs i ng Un i v e r s i t y, T a i wan N o r mal Un i v e r s i t y, and Chu Hai College, H o n g Ko n g. Δ G i f ts donated to U n i t ed College in September i n c l u d e: (a) t wo car-loads of electrical component parts f r om Philips H o n g K o n g L t d ., estimated to be wo r th some HK $ 3 0 , 0 00 and contain items of mu c h value to the new Electronics Laboratory of the College; (b) a collection of reference books f r om the Consulate General of France for students s t ud y i ng French. Δ D r . C.S. Tsang, Dean of the Faculty of A r ts of C h u ng Chi College since 1962, retired at the end of September. D r . T s a ng has rendered valuable service to the College and its students. He recently published t wo books, My Tributes and Ching Ying Chih, collections of addresses and articles of the last eight years, in t r i b u te to his teachers, friends and students. Δ T o commemorate the 4 th anniversary of the Un i v e r s i t y, the Student Un i o ns of the three Foundation Colleges are wo r k i ng together to publish a j o i nt newspaper consisting of articles on the 4th anniversary, college life, and wo r ld situation. Δ A n A r t E x h i b i t i on was held by the De p a r t me nt of Fine A r ts of N ew Asia College at the C i ty Ha ll Ex h i b i t i on Gallery f r om 22 to 27 September. Over 170 pieces, i n c l u d i ng paintings in Western and Chinese style, and prints, were displayed. Δ T he 10th five-week Course in Fine Arts, sponsored by the F i n e A r ts De p a r t me nt of New Asia College, was completed on 29 August. A Closing Ceremony presided over by M r . Y u Ch u n - c h i h, Head of the Department, was held on that day in the College Auditorium. Fifty-six students were enrolled this year. Δ A 4-week Executive De v e l opment Course j o i n t ly sponsored by U n i t ed College and the H o ng K o n g Management Association was completed on 6 September. T h e objectives of the course were: (1) to provide executives w i th a comprehensive understanding of managerial wo r k, (2) to acquaint t h em w i t h management concepts and practices and (3) to broaden their views t h r o u gh study of all phases of business operations. T w e n t y - f o ur m i d d le and j u n i or executives f r om local industrial and commercial concerns attended this t r a i n i ng course, wh i ch consisted of 24 lectures and discussions covering such i mp o r t a nt fields of management as marketing, production, finance, personnel and accounting. T h e course was conducted by D r . Sutu Hsin, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Social Science and Head of the De p a r t me nt of Business Management at U n i t ed College, and M r . W i l l i am C.C. K u n g, L e c t u r er of the De p a r t me n t. It represents the continuing effort of the College, as a constituent of the Un i v e r s i t y, to contribute its knowledge and experience to the c ommu n i t y. 13
