Second Regional Seminar on Mee t i ng the Social Welfare Manpower Needs in South East Asia and Western Pacific held in T o k yo f r om 18 to 22 September, 1967. Δ M r . Chang Ch i en -m i n, Lecturer in Business Management at Un i t ed College, returned on 26 September after attending the Summer Institute of the Survey Research Centre at the University of Michigan. W i t h a grant by the U . S. State Department, M r . Chang spent four weeks at the Institute studying recent developments in quantitative research. After that he visited other business schools and universities in the Un i t ed States. Δ Mr. Ka i - k eung Ma r k, Lecturer in Biology of New Asia College, went to Japan on 16 August to participate in the Seventh International Congress of Biochemistry held in T o k yo f r om 19 to 25 August. He also joined the post-congress tour to visit the major universities and research institutes of Japan and returned to H o ng K o ng on 1 September. Δ T he Directors of Physical Education at Ch u ng Ch i College and Un i t ed College, M r . Aaron Lee and M r . Joachim H . L . Poon, returned to Ho ng K o ng on 7 and 9 September respectively f r om the Wo r ld University Games held in T o k yo f r om 26 August to 4 September, 1967. M r . Poon led the Ho ng K o n g contingent to the games in his capacity as Chairman of the H o ng K o n g Post-Secondary Colleges Athletic Association, and M r . Lee was the coach of the T r a ck Meet. M r . N g Sze-kim, Coach in Athletic Activities at New Asia College, who went to T o k yo as Coach of the Ho ng K o ng Judo Team, returned on 17 September, Δ M r s. L o Shuk-yee, Cataloguer of Un i t ed College L i b r a r y, left for the Un i t ed States on 9 September to pursue advanced training in library science at the School of L i b r a ry Science, Simmons College, Boston, for one year. She was given a study grant of US$3,500 by the Ma ry Elizabeth Wo od Foundation of Boston. Δ M r . Chan Wi n g - kwo n g, a 1967 graduate of Un i t ed College w i th the degree of B.Sc. cum laude, left for the Un i t ed States on 11 September to pursue graduate studies in Chemistry at Indiana University. He was awarded an exchange fellowship in accordance w i t h a graduate exchange programme recently established between Un i t ed College and Indiana University. (See the September issue of The University Bulletin.) M r . John D . Phipps, a Ph . D. candidate f r om Indiana, w i ll pursue research for his thesis on Ch ' i ng and Vietnamese relations at Un i t ed College for the academic year 1967-68. Δ M r s. Maurice T . Moore, sister of the late M r . He n ry R. Luce, whose Foundation has promised to finance part of the proposed Ch u ng Chi College L i b r a r y, visited Ch u ng Chi College on 16 September. M r s. Moo re is the President of the Un i t ed Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, New Yo r k, and is also one of the trustees of the Asia Foundation. T h e staff of the College gave a tea party in her honour. Visitors to Ch u ng Chi College in the mo n th of September include D r . and M r s. Da v id T . Roy of the Department of Far Eastern Languages and Cilivization, University of Chicago; Miss Au d r ey Newsome, officer in charge of Appo i n tmen ts (Placement) and Counselling, University of Keele, Un i t ed K i n g d om; and M r . Song Soo-nam, Lecturer at the Fine Arts College of National Seoul University. Yue Chi-lok LATEST DEVELOPMENT I N UNIVERSI TY OF CAL IFORNIA EXCHANGE PROGRAMME I t has been agreed that on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor of T h e Chinese University and the Director of the University of California Study Centre in Ho ng Ko n g, any staff member or graduate student of the University wo u ld be readily accepted as a non- degree student at Un i v e r i ty of California. A reciprocal arrangement wou ld be made at this University. 10
