Cheng, President o f U n ite d College, has been appointed by the G ove rnor as (a) Chairm an o f the Police C h ild re n 's Education T ru s t C omm ittee and (b) Chairm an o f the Police Education and W elfare T ru s t C omm ittee constituted under section 6(2) o f the O rdinances Nos. 68 and 69 o f 1967. △ M r. W J .K . Booth, Assistant Establishm ent O ffic e r , M r. C h u i K am , Assistant Secretary fo r Chinese A ffa irs, M r. M .D . Sargant, A c tin g C h ie f Executive O fficer, M r. A .G . Bailey, A c tin g D e p u ty P rin cip a l E x ecutive O ffice r and M r. P h ilip Law , Secretary, Social W elfare Depa rtm ent, visited U n ite d College on 12th December and talked to 46 students o f various de pa rt ments who were interested in G ove rnm en t careers. T h e G ove rnm en t officers sat in tw o panels before w h ich the students appeared in groups o f 3 to 4. T h e talks lasted fo r over three hours. △ Exam inations fo r the Y a le -in -C h in a Scholarships were held at N ew Asia College on 3rd December. O u t o f the six candidates th is year, tw o were students o f Econom ics, the rest being students o f the respective departm ents o f H is to ry , Philosophy, C h em istry and Sociology. E xam ina tion results w ill be announced at the end o f January. △ M r. T .C . Cheng, President o f U n ite d College, gave a ta lk to W est K ow lo o n Rotarians at th e ir weekly luncheon held on 6th December. He b rie fly traced the events leading up to the fou n d in g o f T h e Chinese U n iv e rs ity on 17th O ctober, 1963, o u tlin ed w hat the U n iv e rs ity had done d u rin g the past fo u r years to meet the needs o f the com m u n ity and appealed to the audience fo r continued guidance and support. △ A B io logy Sem inar, sponsored by the B iology D e pa rtm e n t o f Chung C h i College, was held on 14th December. T h e guest speaker, D r. D . Eggleston, A c tin g D ire c to r o f Fisheries Research S tation, A g ric u l tu re and Fisheries D epartm ent, spoke on ‘‘Aspects o f Fisheries Research in H o ng K o n g .” △ A t the in v ita tio n o f the U n ite d College S tudent U n io n and the Commerce S ociety , M r . Q .W . Lee, General Manager o f Hang Seng Bank L td ., and T reasu rer o f the U n ive rsity, gave a lecture on the sho rt- te rm effects o f the devaluation o f the H ong K o n g do lla r on December 16 in the College H a ll. A large gathering o f interested students benefited m uch from the lu c id exposition and analysis made by M r. Lee. △ T h e F a cu lty o f Commerce and Social Science o f N ew Asia College held a sem inar on 8th December. Professor D a vid H . L i from the L in g n a n In s titu te o f Business A dm in is tra tio n was in vite d to lecture on “ T h e M anagement In fo rm a tio n S ystem ." △ A record num be r o f fifty three staff and students o f U n ite d College, in c lu d in g M r . S .K . Fang, V ice - President, came fo rw a rd to donate blood to the H ong K o n g Red Cross Society blood bank on 21st December. T h e donation, w h ich was arranged by the College S tudent U n io n , too k place in the College H a ll. T h e donors received a souvenir medal each from the Society and enjoyed soft d rin k s and tea after the donation. △ In observance o f the 50th A nnive rsary o f the Independence o f F in la n d , the Chung C h i College noon- h o u r recorded A pp reciation Concert on 7 th December was dedicated to F in n ish M u sic. A n open house coffee p a rty fo r staff members and th e ir spouses was held on the fo llow in g day. △ T h e Chung C h i College B o y-ch o ir presented a Carol Vesper in the college chapel on 17th December, under the d ire ctio n o f D r. R u th Esther H illila . T h e ho u r-lo n g presentation featured A d v e n t and Christmas M usic. △ D u rin g the weekly C hung C h i College Assembly on 22nd December, a programme o f H a rp and Choral M u sic was presented by M rs. M a ry E lizabeth C ollins, harpist, and the C hung C h i C horal Society, under the dire ctio n o f D r. D a vid Sheng. △ M r. N .H . Young, Academ ic Registrar, U n ite d College, has been in v ite d to serve on the H o ng K o n g C omm ittee fo r the selection o f local students fo r award o f scholarships and postgraduate studies at East-W est Center, H o n o lu lu , U .S .A . △ D r. K a i-ke u n g M a rk o f the B iology D e pa rtm ent o f N ew Asia College, gave a lecture on " T h e 7 th In te r national Congress o f B io chem istry” on 8th December, at a sem inar sponsored by the Departm ent. △ Professor S.C. Joseph Fu has been elected a F e llow o f the Am erican Association fo r Advancement o f Science. △ D r. L .S . Chuang, L e c tu re r in Physics at Chung C h i College, was elected as an associate o f the In s titu te o f Physics o f L o nd on , on 5th December, 1967. △ D r. S.C. L o ll, Reader in E lectronics and Head o f the D e pa rtm e n t o f Physics and E lectronics, U n ite d College, delivered a lecture on " T h e Im p lic a tio n o f Com puters fo r M o d e rn S o cie ty" on 3rd December at the Sunday E vening F o rum sponsored by the S tudent C h ristian Centre, K ow loon. △ D r. S.C. Yang, Senior L e c tu re r and Head o f the D e pa rtm ent o f A cco u n tin g and Finance, U n ite d College, acted as E xte rn a l E xam ine r in A ccou n tin g fo r Ngee A n n College o f Singapore in its exam ination held from 11th to 16th December 1967. 7
