△ M r. L am C h ik-ho , B .S ., J.P., Chairman o f the Board o f Governors o f Chung C h i College, received the M .B .E . in the New Year's H onours L is t. △ M r. M o u T sung San, new ly appointed Senior Le ctu re r in Philosophy at N ew Asia College, assumed d u ty on 1st January. He is a renowned Chinese philosopher and has taught fo r many years at various universities in China. H is w ritte n works in c lu d e : Logic; Philosophy o f H isto ry; Human Abilities and Taoistic-Metaphysics; and Critique o f Cognitive M in d . △ M r. W ong Ching Chang, new ly appointed Senior L e ctu re r in Chinese Language and L ite ra tu re at New Asia College, has taken up his post since 21st January. He is a noted scholar o f Chinese L ite ra tu re , especial ly fo r his great co n trib u tio n to the study o f ‘‘ch'u ’’ (drama and song) and “ tz ’u" poetry. F o r many years he taught at various universities in Taiw an. H is im p o rta n t publications include: On the Methods o f Composition o f Northern and Southern Songs; A B r ie f Discussion on Chinese D rama; An A nnotation o f Phono logy in Ancient Central China and Principles o f Chinese Drama and Songs. △ M r. B rian C. B lom field , Associate Le ctu re r in English at C hung Chi College, has been promoted to L e ctu re r w ith effect from 17th January. △ M r. Eugene Shih has been appointed pa rt-tim e honorary organ in stru cto r in the Departm ent o f M u sic at Chung C h i College, w ith effect from 1st January. △ D r. Stephen Salaff 's appointm ent as T em po ra ry L e ctu re r in Mathem atics at Chung C h i College has been extended from 1st February, 1968 to 31st August, 1968. △ T h e In s titu te o f Advanced Chinese Studies and Research o f New Asia College held its T h ir d Research T rainees' M o n th ly Sem inar on 25th January. A t this sem inar M r. Y u Yook K o n g read his paper on "C o n fu ciu s' U nderstanding o f P rop rie ty — as observed from his A na le cts"; and M r. K w o k Yuen Yam , on “ A Discussion on K u o T in g -lin g 's Poetry’’. △ Rev. F ra n klin W oo o f Chung C h i College has been appointed by the President, D r. C .T . Yung, to serve as Chairman o f the Comm ittee on Vacation Use o f College Facilities. △ M iss K an W in g Sheung, a fo u rth year student in Sociology o f New Asia College, was awarded the Y a le -in -C h ina Scholarship. △ M r. L am Hung-hee and M iss M argaret W u, both piano in structors in the Departm ent o f M u sic, C hung C h i College, played the Concerto No. 10 fo r T w o Pianos in a concert on New Year's Day at the C ity Ha ll. △ U n ite d College held its 2nd A nn ua l A th le tic M eet at the South China A th le tic Association Stadium , Caroline H ill, on 19th January. 365 student-athletes o f the College (an 80% increase over last year's num ber) took part in a fu ll programme o f track and field events. T h e y were divided in to fo u r D ivisions w hich competed fo r the group championship. T he re was a general im provem ent o f standards, and many records were broken. T h e Faculty o f Science D ivisio n again won the group championship. M r. N g T o r-ta i, M em b e r o f the College Board o f Trustees, who donated the in d iv id u a l prizes fo r all events, delivered the closing speech and M rs. N g dis trib u te d prizes to the w inners. △ T h e Liaison Departm ent o f the New Asia College S tudent U n io n held a reception fo r representatives o f over tw en ty post-secondary colleges at the College on 7th January. M r. Lee L a i T o , President o f the U n ion , and M r. Yau Y in g H ung , Chairman o f the Reception Comm ittee, explained that the purpose o f the reception was to foster better relations among the various colleges so that they can w o rk together to promote cultural activities in Hong Kong. △ second reception was held by the Departm ent on 14th January fo r secondary school representatives, w ith the aim o f p rom o tin g better understanding between secondary and un ive rsity students. I t was well attended by 59 representatives from 29 English and Chinese schools. M iss T a n g Pong W ai, V ice-Chairm an o f the Reception Comm ittee, spoke to the guests on adm is sion requirements, exam ination system, and campus development o f the U n ive rsity. A fte r the reception, they were shown around the College campus. △ M r. Ala Shun K in , th ird year student in Che m istry at Chung C h i College, has been elected President o f the S tudent Representative Council. M r. Poon M in g Sun, th ird year student in Chinese, was elected V ice-President. △ T h e new ly-fo rm ed choir o f the U n ited College S tudent U n io n won second prize in a choral contest organized by the H ong K o n g Federation o f S tudents , w hich was held on 13th January, at the C ity Ha ll, Concert H a ll, △ T h e A lu m n i Association o f New Asia College held its 'A lu m n i D ay' on 7th January. I t was well attended by graduates of the past years. T h e program me fo r the day included a foo tb a ll match, dinner, dance and raffle draw. △ M iss Flossy Lee, A dm in istra tiv e Assistant o f Chung C h i College, resigned on 31st January. She has been reappointed Assistant L ib ra ria n o f the U n ive rsity L ib ra ry w ith effect from 2nd February. 7
