Bulletin Vol. 5 No. 2 Oct 1968

I t is a job well done that distinguishes a man w ith a great future from one who complains and gets nowhere. I t is most gratifying to know that w ithin such a short period o f five years the University has shown signs of maturity and rapid development. This may not be too apparent to outsiders who can observe little of the University as a physical entity w ith the three constituent colleges and other research insti tutes at such distances from one another. Bu t the University w ill have moved out to a new site cover ing more than 273 acres half-way between Taipo and Shatin in 1973. By that time you w ill be very proud o f your new university campus which w ill be equal to any university campus in the world. However, I would like to remind you that a good university campus alone does not mean a good university, fo r a university consists o f three main parts; that is, the teaching and administrative staff , the students and the university buildings. The com munity and, in fact, the world at large, are judging the university not by its school buildings but by the performance of its graduates. I sincerely hope, therefore, that all of you w ill be able to live up to the expectation of the Hong Kong community and other friends all over the world. F inally, 1 wish to take this opportunity to wish you happiness and success in your career. Le t us all rise and drink to the future success o f our grad uates. Ladies and Gentlemen — the Graduates!
