Studen t Enrolmen t The total enrolment o f the University a s a t 30th September, 1969 i s 2,266. Of these, 2,104 are undergraduates, 623 in the Faculty of Arts, 844 i n the Faculty o f Commerce and Social Science, and 637 i n th e Faculty o f Science. 791 o f these students ar e enrolled a t Chung Chi College, 698 a t New Asia College and 615 at United College. There are altogether 1,207 male undergraduates and 897 female undergraduates. The Graduate School ha s a t present 5 0 students, and the School o f Education 55 students, 8 full-time and 47 part-time, while the New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and Research has 16 trainees. In addition, the University has 2 3 exchange students and 18 associate students. Coming s & Going s • A public lecture on "Macroeconomic Policy: Some Comments on Goals and Instruments", sponsored jointly b y the Department o f Economics o f the three Foundation Colleges and the Economic Research Centre of this University, and the Department of Economics of the University of Hong Kong, was delivered o n 22nd September, 1969 b y Prof. Robert A . Gordon, a n eminent economist o f the University o f California, Berkeley. • Prof. John Cowee, Provost o f Marquette University, was i n Hong Kong from 8th t o 13th September to advise o n the Lingnan Institute o f Business Administration and university administration. • Dr. L iu Tien-ts ü eh, Professor o f Philosophy at London University, gave a talk on "An Approach to the Study o f the History o f Philosophy" a t the Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and Research of New Asia College on 20th September. • Visitors t o United College i n September included Prof. G . Hobson o f th e University o f Pittsburgh and Prof. P . Abeysekeva o f Vidyodaya University o f Ceylon. • Dr. Benjamin Y. Chan, Lecturer at the School of Education o f this University, attended the Conference for Inspectors o f Schools from th e Fa r Eastern and Pacific Areas o f the Commonwealth a t the University of Singapore from 5th to 15th August. The Conference was organized by the University o f Birmingham. • Dr . Ronald F . Turner-Smith, Lecturer and Head o f the Department o f Mathematics, Chung Chi College, attended the 1969 Mathematical Conference on Finite Simple Groups sponsored by the London Mathematical Society an d th e N A TO Advanced Study Institute held between 1st and 21st September a the Mathematical Institute i n Oxford. • Prof. S.S. Hsueh, Professor o f Government and Public Administration, United College, attended the Investiture Ceremony o f the new President o f the State University o f th e Philippines o n September as official delegate o f the A S A I HL and this University. He was invited by the Programme Committee of the Investiture Ceremony to speak on behalf of all foreign delegations. • Mr. Jack Gray, Senior Lecturer i n Far East History and Executive Secretary o f Chinese Committee, University o fGlasgow, arrived o n 14t September t o carry out research a t this University as Leverhulme Scholar. • Other visitors to the University included Dean Robert W. Rogers o f Illinois University; and "The Second Waseda University Floating Seminar". Colleg e New s • Thanks to the continued guidance and support from the local representative organizations, some new members have been nominated t o the Board of Trustees o f United College. These include Mr. Vincent V.C. Woo from the Federation o f Hong Kong Industries, Mr. N.A. Rigg from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, Dr. S.K.
