Teachers and College Fellows The Chinese University o f Hong Kong Ordinance 1976 provides for the establishment o f an Assembly o f Fellows at each College. The Senate o f this Univer­ sity adopted a “ Statement on Teachers and College Fellows" at its meeting on 13th April, 1977. Teachers 1. The tradition o f assigning teachers o f the Univer­ sity to the three Colleges shall be continued. 2. In accordance w ith Statute 16 o f the University Ordinance, the Council shall initially appoint six Fellows for each College and the Assembly o f Fellows o f each College may elect additional Fellows. 3. Teachers assigned to the Colleges, whether they are Fellows or not, shall participate in the dual teaching system, carrying out duties relating to both subject-orientated teaching and student-orientated teaching. 4. Should teachers assigned to a College take up various functions relating to that College , such services shall be recognized as contributions to the University as well as to the College. College Fellows 5. Fellows shall be appointed or elected in accord ance w ith Statute 16 o f the University Ordinance for a term o f five years and shall be eligible for re-election. 6. The total number o f Fellows shall not exceed 25 in each College. This number, however, shall be sub ject to review in the future. 7. The Fellows o f each College, together w ith the Head o f the College, shall form an Assembly o f Fellows for that College. The Head o f the College shall be the Chairman o f the Assembly o f Fellows o f that College. 8. In accordance w ith the University Ordinance, the Assembly o f Fellows o f each College shall be respon sible for making decisions on and implementing all matters relating to that College, including: (a) the promotion o f student-orientated teaching in collaboration w ith the Boards o f Studies and under the direction o f the Senate o f the University; (b) the planning and promotion o f the general education and physical education pro grammes in the College; (c) advising on College student affairs and main taining student discipline in the College; (d) the promotion o f student welfare and the planning for, and the supervision of, student hostels in the College; (e) the advancement o f academic and cultural activities , (f) the development o f public relations, includ ing liaison w ith alumni, fund-raising, etc.; (g) the election o f representatives from among the Fellows, to serve on various committees, including the College Board o f Trustees, University Council and Senate; and (h) the establishment o f committees under the College Assembly o f Fellows. 9. Upon the expiration o f the term o f the Head o f a College, the Assembly o f Fellows of that College shall, in accordance w ith Statute 9 of the University Ordi nance, elect six Fellows of varying academic seniority who, together w ith the Vice-Chancellor as Chairman and one member elected by the Board o f Trustees o f that College, shall form a committee for making recommendations to the Council for appointment or re-appointment o f the Head o f the College.
