Mr. Lau Ho-Fuk Lecturer, Depar tmen t o f Mar ket i ng and I n t ernat ional Business Mr. Lau Ho-Fuk, agraduate o f this University, received his degree o f Master o f Commerce from the Lingnan Institute o f Business Administration in 1969. One year later, he went to the Business School o f Columbia University in New York for further studies and obtained his MBA Degree in Marketing and Inter national Business. A fter graduating from the Columbia University, Mr. Lau joined the Coca-Cola Export Corporation and was assigned to the Pacific Zone Office. He was appointed Field Representative in 1974 , representing the interests o f the company in Hong Kong and Macau. While serving the company, Mr. Lau spent about six months in Australia and two months in the Philippines, where he studied and compared the soft- drink business o f the two countries. In spring 1976 , he joined the Garment Subsidiary o f the South Sea Textile Manufacturing Company, where he was in charge o f a trading department, and was responsible for the exploration and development o f business opportunities. Mr. Lau joined this University in summer 1982 as Lecturer in Marketing and International Business. Before joining the University, Mr. Lau had been active in adult education as well as executive training pro grammes in the field o f marketing. He had served as part-time lecturer for Hong Kong Polytechnic, the Hong Kong Management Association, and the Extra mural Studies Department o f this University. He was also part-time Associate Professor o f Marketing o f Chu Hai College from 1975 to 1982. Mr. Pen-Yeh Tsao Lec turer , Depar tment o f Musi c Mr. Pen-Yeh Tsao graduated from the University o f British Columbia w ith the degrees o f Bachelor o f Music in piano performance (1974) and Master o f Music in ethnomusicology (1977). From 1976 to 1978 he served at his alma mater asTeaching Assistant and Research Assistant o f the Music Department and as lib ra ry Assistant in the Music and Asian Studies libraries. Before his appointment as Lecturer at The Chinese University, he was Professor and Chairman o f the Music Department o f Okanagan College, Canada; and Senior Music Officer at the Hong Kong Govern ment Music Office. Mr. Tsao has received numerous awards for academic proficiency and piano performance, in cluding the U.B.C. Graduate Fellowship (74-77) and Special University Prize for the top graduating student in music (74 ), and was winner o f the Kiwanis Music Festival. He has performed in recitals, on tele vision and radio in both Hong Kong and Canada, and appeared as soloist w ith the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Okanagan Sumphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Tsao's research interest and speciality lies in the music o f singing-narratives and regional musical genres o f the Chiangsu and Chekiang area. His thesis was entitled 'Su-Chou T'an-Tz'u: An Ethnomusico- iogical Study o f the Structural Elements o f the Chinese Southern Singing-Narratives'. PROFILES 37
