Dr . Ma L i n to Stay On The Council o f the University announced that the term o f office o f Dr. Ma L in as Vice-Chancellor has been extended fo r two years un til 30th September, 1987. Dr. the Hon. Q.W. Lee, Chairman o f the Council, commended Dr. Ma on his valuable and outstanding contri butions to the University during his Vice-Chancellorship. He particularly mentioned the smooth integration o f the University follow ing its reorganization set in motion by the Repo r t o f the Second F u l t o n Commi ssi on in 1976, and the successful build-up o f the new Medical Faculty, which w ill turn out its first batch o f graduates in 1986. Dr. Lee also said that the Council was very pleased to have Dr. Ma stay on fo r two years after the expiry o f his present term o f office on 30th September, 1985, when he would have reached the normal retirement age o f sixty. Dr. Ma was appointed to the Vice-Chancellorship in October 1978, succeeding Dr. Choh-Ming Li, the first Vice- Chancellor. Lord Todd o f Trumpington (Christ's College, Cambridge) Dr. Clark Kerr (President Emeritus, University o f California) Comm ittee News * Mr. Chau Cham-son, J.P., has replaced Mr. Jose Meng-can Lei, J.P., as an ex-officio member o f the Campus Planning and Building Committee upon his appointment to the Directorship o f the Building Development Department o f the Government. * The Academic Equipment Grant Committee under the Administrative and Planning Committee (AAPC) has been reconstituted from 1984-85 as follows: Com position Chairman: Professor L.B. Terms o f Reference (i) Having regard to overall University policies on academic development and research, to advise the AAPC on the broad outline for using the academic equipment grant; (ii) To make annual equipment fund allocations; (iii) To formulate regulations and controls on the use o f the equipment grant; and (iv) To monitor the pattern o f equipment grant use and its effectiveness, and to report to AAPC thereon.
