The speaker was Mr. Martin Wolf, Director of Studies of the Trade Policy Research Centre in London, who gave a lecture entitled ‘Does the Trade Cloud have a Silver lining? Prospects for Hong Kong in a Protec tionist World Economy'. The lecture was organized by the MBA Division, and was financed by an endow ment fund given by the Li and Fung Group of Com panies. * The Department of Government and Public Administration held a public forum on ‘What Should Be the Pay Policy and Pay Adjustment System for Hong Kong Civil Service?' by Professor James L. Perry, Visiting Fulbright Professor of the Department, on 28th April. * The Department of Sociology organized the following seminars: — ‘Chinese Economic Reform and Psycho logical Problems among the Younger Gener ation', conducted by Mr. Ye Xiaowen, Mem ber of the Central Committee of Communist Youth LeagueofChina, Secretary ofGuizhou Provincial Committee, and Vice-Chairman of Guizhou Provincial Sociology Association, on 28th April. — 'Myths and Realities of Biological Aging', conducted by Dr. Richard C. Adelman, Director of the Institute of Gerontology and Professor of Biological Chemistry, The University of Michigan, on 7th May. - ‘Long Term Care in the United States', con ducted by Dr. Jersey Liang, Associate Pro fessor, Medical Care Organization, and Asso ciate Research Scientists of the Institute of Gerontology, The University of Michigan, on 7th May. * Professor Zhou Peiyuan, President of Chinese Scientific and Technological Association, gave a talk on 'General Relativity' on 2nd May. The lecture was organized by the Department of Physics. * A workshop on Biochemical Education jointly organized by the Department of Biochemistry, the Hong Kong Biochemical Association and the Inter national Union of Biochemistry was held on 5th May. The workshop featured the following topics: (1) Bio­ chemical education in Hong Kong —some specific problems; (2) Opportunities in biochemistry at the dawn of modern biotechnology; and (3) Career pros pects for biochemistry graduates. Invited speakers included eight academics from the local universities and five overseas members from the Commission on Education of the International Union of Biochem istry. * The Yale-China Association presented alecture on ‘Current Political Situation in the Philippines' by Ms. Theresa C. Carino, Director of the Chinese Studies Programme, De La Salle University, the Philippines, on 8th May. * The Department of Music organized: —An oboe recital by Mr. Harold Emert, currently principal oboist of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, on 5th March. At the piano was Ms. Margaret Lynn. — A piano-duo recital by Professors Heidi Bung and Kurt Bauer of the Academy of Music in Hannover, West Germany, on 10th March. —A voeal-guitar recital by Dr. Greta Olsen (Mezzo-soprano) and Ms. Tina Karen Lo (guitar), accompanied by Ms.MarilynWatson (piano), on 12th March. 一 Students' concerts on 13th , 20th, 27th March, 3rd April and 7th May. —A concert by ‘The Cantabile Trio', a well- known local ensemble comprising Ms. Francesca Chan (soprano), Mr. Daniel Silver (clarinet) and Ms. Eva Lue (piano), on 19th March. —A piano master-class by Ms. Zelda Bock, Lecturer of the University of Adelaide, Australia, on 26th March. —A lecture-recital by Ms. Ann Lampard, a mezzo-soprano, on 14th April. At the piano was Ms. Marilyn Watson. * The Art Gallery presented an exhibition of 'Selections from the Art Gallery's Collection' from 1st March to 11th May. The Exhibition featured a wide range of artifacts including ceramics, jade carv ings, bronzes, lacque wares, paintings and rubbings, all selected to represent the different styles and art forms throughout the history of China. * An exhibition of books on 'Chinese Drinks and Cookery' was held at Chung Chi College library from 7thto 11thApril.
