Seminars • Concerts • E xh ib ition * Chung Chi College organized: — A series of lectures by Mr. Xiao Qian, a famous Chinese writer and the 1986-87 Siu Lien Ling Wong Visiting Fellow of the College: (1) 'The Friends I Made in Great Britain' (7th January); (2) 'The Insight I gained on Human Nature during and since the War' (8th January); (3) 'Chinese Literature in the '80s' (9th January); (4) 'Writer, Man, Love and Feelings' (9th January); and (5) 'Looking at the Present State of Creative Writers in China Through the Treatment of Love in Recent Fictions' (10th Jan uary). — The annual Education Conference, on 'Aca demic Freedom and Society', was held on 16th January. The three speakers were: Mr. Xiao Qian, the Hon. Mr. Justice T .L . Yang, and Professor Ambrose Y.C. King of the Department of Sociology. * The Department of Physics organized: — A public lecture on ‘The Development of Science in Taiwan during the Past Two Decades' by Professor Ta-You Wu, President of the Academia Sinica, Taiwan, on 8th January. — A seminar on 'Optical Information Pro cessing' conducted by Professor Mu Guo- guang, President and Professor of Physics, Nankai University, China, on 19th January. — A seminar on 'Generation of Neutron Star from Guest Star' conducted by Professor Wang Zhenru, Department of Astronomy, Nanjing University, China, on 20th January. * The Institute of Chinese Studies organized the following seminars: — ‘Criticism and Evidential Studies: The Story o f Ying Ying' conducted by Professor Joseph Lau, Professor and Chairman of the Depart­ ment of East Asian Languages and literature, University of Wisconsin, on 7th January. The seminar was jointly organized with the Department of Chinese Language and lite ra ­ ture. — ‘The Dream o f the Red Chamber and the Background of Its Author' conducted by Mr. Hsu Yet-ping (Kao Yang), a famous novelist from Taiwan, on 10th January. — ‘An Introduction to Guangdong Dialects' conducted by Professor Zhan Bo-hui, Dean of College of liberal Arts, Jinan University, China, on 13th January. 一 'Changes in Chinese Society in Modern Times' conducted by Professor Chang Yu-fa, Director of Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, on 12th February, — 'The Literary Heritage of "Manchukuo"' conducted by Professor Howard Goldblatt, Professor of Chinese literature, San Francisco State University, USA, on 16th February. This seminar was jointly organized with the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. — ‘The Management of Resources and Cata loging in library Collections in Taiwan' conducted by Dr. Wang Chen-ku, Director of National Central library, Taiwan, on 19th February. * New Asia College organized the following seminars and lectures: — Seminars conducted by the Ming Yu Visiting Scholars of the College: (1) 'Philosophy's Second Revolution' con ducted by Professor David Clarke, Pro fessor of Philosophy, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, USA, on 12th January. The seminar was jointly organ ized with the Department of Philosophy. (2) 'Risk Management and Insurance' con ducted by Professor Kailin Tuan, Pro fessor of Insurance and International Business, School of Business Adminis tration of Temple University in Philadelphia, USA, on 17th January.
