Chow Tin-wo, Daniel Senior Lecturer in Theology Dr. Leonard Chu Senior Lecturer in Journalism and Communi­ cation Dr. Hsieh Jiann Senior Lecturer in Anthropology Dr. Wong Yue-chim, Richard Senior Lecturer in Economics Gifts and Donations As a manifestation o f their confidence in this Univer sity's development , local and overseas individuals and foundations have donated generously to support the University's physical development programme , research projects, publication projects , fellowship and scholarship schemes, and have presented the Univer sity with equipment and books. The University has recently received the following gifts and donations: (1) From Mr. K.K. Leung a donation of HK$8,000,000 towards the construction cost of an academic building. (2) From an anonymous donor a donation of HK$ 1,000,000 for the establishment of an endowment fund, the accrued interest from which will be used for: (a) awards under the Dr. R.C. Lee Memorial Gold Medal in Surgery Award Scheme; (b) a cash prize associated with the award in (a); and (c) educational, research and training pro­ grammes of the Department of Surgery. (3) From the Chung Brothers a donation of HK$ 1,000,000 for the establishment of the Chung Chan Wai Lim Endowment Fund, the accrued interest from which w ill be used to provide scholarships for students of the Faculty of Business Administration. (4) From Mr. Michael J. Costin a donation of HK$2,500 towards the Dr. Kan Lai-bing Fund for employing student helpers in the library. (5) From Mr. Wilson T.S. Wang a further donation of HK$1,000,000 towards the endowment fund for the Wilson T.S. Wang Visiting Professorship Scheme in the Department of Surgery. (6) From Chou's Foundation a donation of HK$20,000 for the establishment of a Student Campus Work Scheme for 1986-87. (7) From Dow Chemical Pacific Ltd. a donation of HK$6,000 for the Dow Chemical Scholarship 1986-87 , to be awarded to an MBA student. (8) From Duty Free Shoppers Charitable Trust a donation of HK$6,000 for the Duty Free Shoppers Scholarship 1986-87, to be awarded to an MBA student. (9) From Dr. S.S. Lee a donation of HK$3,000 as the Lee Sheung Sun Academic Awards for the students resident in the Postgraduate Hall Complex. (10) From Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Fund annual donations of: (a) HK$88,000 for four Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Fund Postgraduate Scholarships of HK$22,000 each, to be awarded, as from 1986-87, to outstanding graduate students; and (b) HK$108,000 for eighteen Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Fund Scholarships of HK$6,000 each, to be awarded, as from 1986-87, to undergraduate students. (11) From an American doctor a donation of US$150 to the Chinese Medicinal Material Research Centre. (12) From Cheng Yu Tung Foundation Ltd. a dona­ tion of HK$300,000 in support of research activities of the Institute of Chinese Studies. (13) From Consumer Council a donation of HK$8,250 in support of a research project by Dr. Albert W.N. Leung of the Department of Biochemistry. (14) From The Croucher Foundation a further dona­ tion of HK$ 11,250 for a research project undertaken by the Department of Morbid Anatomy. GIFTS AND DONATIONS 23
