Farewell D inne r f o r Professor and Mrs. Ma L in Over 500 members o f the University, including Council members, staff, students and alumni bid fare­ well to Professor Ma Lin, the retiring Vice-Chancellor, and Mrs. Ma at a dinner party held at Hotel Furama on 18th September. A t the party, Sir Y.K. Kan, Council Chairman o f the University between 1971 and 1982, and pre sently the Pro-Chancellor, warmly praised Professor Ma for his capable leadership. ‘Under Dr. Ma's Vice- Chancellorship', he said, 'the University has greatly expanded, even more important, its reputation as a seat o f higher learning has won universal recognition and acclaim both here and abroad .' Professor Ma, in his address, expressed his sincere gratitude to all his friends and colleagues. ‘Given that we are in the right place, at the right time and w ith the right people,' he concluded, ‘the prospect o f our University can only be excellent.' Other speakers o f the evening included Professor Hsu Baysung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor ; Professor Lee Cheuk-yu, Professor o f Biochemistry; Mr. Leo Liu, President o f the Federation o f Alumni Associations; and Mr. Choy Chi Keung, President o f the CUHK Student Union. Sir Y.K. Kan presented a replica o f the Univer sity Crest to Professor and Mrs. Ma as a souvenir from members o f the University. The Student Union also handed to Professor Ma a souvenir photo album con taining pictures o f Professor Ma taken on various occasions w ith students.
