N e w s in B r i e f Dr. Ma Lin Honoured A t its Ninth Congregation which took place on 12th September, the University o f East Asia in Macau conferred on Dr. Ma Lin , the Vice-Chancellor, the degree o f Doctor o f Letters, honoris causa, in recog nition o f Dr. Ma's service to education generally and to the University o f East Asia in particular as an Honorary Adviser during its founding years. New Vice-Chancellor to Serve on HKU Council The new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles K. Kao, has been appointed by His Excellency the Chancellor o f the University o f Hong Kong as a member o f the University Council for three years effective 1st October, 1987. Committee News * With a view to introducing a Part-time Degree Programme and a Minor Programme in Physical Education during the 1988-91 triennium, a Com mittee on Physical Education has been established w ith effect from 1st August to replace the Senate Committee on Physical Education. The terms o f reference o f the new Committee is to advise the Senate on the courses o f study w ithin the purview o f the Physical Education Unit, on the appointment o f internal and external examiners and on such other matters as the Senate may request. Its composition is as follows: Chairman Professor G.H.
