MA in Music (Composition) The programme is proposed in consideration o f the encouraging growth in the number o f local com posers in recent years which calls for academic support in upgrading the level o f musical training in the territory. MA in Chinese Language & Literature (part-time day release) This is a course-work programme based on the present undergraduate and MPhil courses. It is expected that the majority o f students w ill be serving secondary school teachers. Joint Admissions fo r the Universities The Chinese University o f Hong Kong (CUHK) and the University o f Hong Kong (HKU)have recently established a jo in t admissions working party to work out details o f a scheme that w ill put into practice the agreed principles o f allowing students to apply to both universities in a single procedure. The objective o f the jo in t admissions scheme is to allow the two universities to no tify students o f admission offers at the same time at the end o f secondary six, so that students are better able to choose universities and degree courses according to their preferences and abilities. The CUHK offers would be ‘firm ' , but as long as HKU maintains a three-year degree course, HKU offers would be con ditional upon Advanced Level results a year later. On feature o f the scheme is expected to be the weighting given to students' academic progress in senior secondary forms and to school reports on extracurricular achievements. Opening Ceremony o f ICS Extension The newly constructed extension o f the Institute o f Chinese Studies (ICS) was formally opened on 20th October, 1988. The vice-chancellor, Professor Charles K.
