Council News * Mrs. Alice K . Y. Lam has been appointed University Treasurer for a term of three years from 1st July, 1989 ， succeeding Dr. the Hon. Peter Poon Wing-cheung. Dr. Peter Poon was University Treasurer from 24th October, 1985, and he w i l l continue his association with the University as Vice-Chairman of the University Council. * Dr. Su Chung-jen has been re-elected by the board of trustees of Chung Chi College as a member of the University Council for a further period of three years from 11th February, 1989. * Mr. Hsiang-chien Tang has been re-elected by the board of trustees of New Asia College as a member of the Council for a further period of three years from 16th April, 1989. * Sir Run Run Shaw and Dr. Ho Tim have been re-elected by the board of trustees of The United College as members of the Council for a further period of three years from 16th March, 1989. * Dr. Philip Fu has been elected by the assembly of fellows of Chung Chi College as a member of the Council for a period of three years from 23rd April, 1989. * Professor Thomas C.W. Mak has been elected by the assembly of fellows of New Asia College as a member of the Council for a period of three years from 27th April, 1989. The New University Treasurer The n ew ly appointed University T r easu r e r, Mr s. Alice K.Y. Lam, is currently deputy general manager of Hang Seng Bank Ltd. and director of Ho ng K o ng Telephone Co. Ltd. and the Wing On Bank Ltd. She has served on many public bodies including the Council of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Provisional Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation, Securities and Futures Appeals Panel, and Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service. She was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1987. Mrs. Lam's association w i th The Chinese University of Hong Kong dates back to 1977 when she was appointed member of the Advisory Board of the Three-Year MBA Programme. She has also been on the University's Finance Committee since 1987. 2
