The Art of Su Liupeng & Su Renshan The exhibition of The Art of Su Liupeng & Su Renshan', j o i n t l y presented by the Guangzhou Art Gallery and The Chinese University Art Gallery, was held in the Westwing Galleries of the Art Gallery from 24th March to 20th May 1990. Known as the ‘Two Sus', Su Liupeng and Su Renshan were two Guangdong painters active in the first half of the nineteenth century. Liupeng is well known for his figure paintings, which depict a great variety of subjects, including legendary scenes, literary gatherings and the daily lives of the common people. Su Renshan is famous for painting immortals and Buddist figures, as well as landscapes. The preview of the exhibition was held on 23rd March at the Art Gallery. Mr. Xie Wenyong, adviser to the Guangzhou Art Gallery, and Mr. Wong Chung Yin, adviser to the CU Art Gallery, officiated at the opening ceremony. Left : Su Liupeng (ca.1796 -1862) Figure inspired by the poem of Su Shi, Hanging scroll Right: Su Renshan (1814-1850) Evening clouds over a river, Hanging scroll United College Budding Scholar Exchange Programme A group of student scholars from Tunghai University, Taiwan, the first batch of exchange scholars under the Budding Scholar Exchange Programme, visited United College from 9th to 13th February. Financially supported by the United College Endowment Fund, the project aims to establish student-based academic exchange programmes with other universities and institutions in Asia, and to promote in students a deeper understanding of the social, cultural, artistic and scientific issues in various regions in Asia. The United College Budding Scholar Team will pay a reciprocal visit to Tunghai University this December and will conduct a comparative research project on the environmental management issues in Taiwan and Hong Kong. The University Development Section A New Section within the University Secretariat The University Development Section was established in January 1990 within the University Secretariat. It has a mission to support the expansion of the University's research and development (R&D) activities and achieve other University development objectives through linkages and collaboration with external organizations. Through increased research activities and greater collaboration with the business and public organizations, the University can enlarge its reservoir of knowledge, and in turn benefit society by transferring this knowledge to students and to the community at large.
