Bulletin Autumn‧Winter 1990

The University's first ever Alumni Day was held on 2nd December. On that sunny day, the University campus was thronged with people. The event was organized to strengthen the bonds between the University and its alumni, an d to encourage even more graduates to support the University's activities. It attracted over 3,000 alumni and their families, all eager to show support and enthusiasm for their alma mater. The day's programme began at 2.00 pm at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall with a video show about recent developments at the University and its future plans. This was followed by an animated cartoon show specially arranged for the children. One of the main highlights of the day was a friendly football match between the University team and a team from the Guangzhou Institute of Physical Culture, who had been specially invited to Hong Kong for this event. Despite the fact that a playe r on the home team had to be treated for minor injuries, and the fact that the visiting team scored two goals and the home team none, it was a lively and amicable match, made even more so by the Scottish melodies provided by the Cape Collinson Band, who serenaded the crowd both before the match and during the interval.
