Fortieth Congregat ion for the Conferment of Honorary and Higher Degrees The University held its 40th congregation at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall on 11th October 1990. Over 1,000 graduates, parents and guests attended the ceremony. His Excellency the Governor and Chancellor of the University, Sir David Wilson, officiated at the congregation and four eminent persons were awarded honorary doctorates. Mr. James Z.M. Kung and Dr. the Hon. Allen Lee Peng-fei received the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa; Prof. David Todd, the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa; and Prof. Chang Kwang-chih, the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa. The public orator was Dr. Byron Weng, reader in government and public administration, who also wrote the citations. Prof. Chang Kwang-chih addressed the assembly on behalf of the honorary graduates. The congregation also saw the award of higher degrees to 258 graduates, including three Doctors of Medicine, 10 Doctors of Philosophy, 101 Masters of Philosophy, 22 Masters of Arts, two Masters of Divinity, 106 Masters of Business Administration, eight Masters of Arts (Education), one Master of Science, four Masters of Social Science and one Master of Social Work. 40TH CONGREGATION 2
