Gifts and Donat ions The University has recently received from local and overseas individuals and foundations the following gifts and donations in support of its programmes and projects: (1) From Mr. Chiang Chen a pledged donation of HK$ 12,000,000 for the construction of a guest house for academic visitors to the University. (2) From a group of biology graduates of the University HK$ 10,450 for the establishment of an endowment fund to provide a prize for biology students. (3) From four 1977 business administration graduates of New Asia College HK$3,000 to provide two scholarships of $1,500 each for students of New Asia College in 1989-90. (4) From the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society HK$2,300 for the award of a postgraduate scholarship in 1989-90. (5) From Mr. Choi Ying Choy an annual donation of HK$6,000 for two prizes of $3,000 each to be awarded to students of the Part-time Degree Programme in Chinese-English. (6) From Mr. Edmund Chu HK$2,000 to provide a scholarship for a student of New Asia College in 1989-90. (7) From Digital Equipment Hong Kong Limited an annual donation of HK$20,000 to provide two awards of $10,000 each for students of the Two-year MBA Programme to participate in exchange programmes. (8) From Gilman Office Machines an annual donation of HK$ 10,000 to provide an award for a second-year student of the Two-year MBA Programme to participate in an exchange programme with the London Business School. (9) From Hiram Walker Wines & Spirits Limited an annual donation of HK$ 10,000 to provide an award for a second- year student of the Two-year MBA Programme to participate in an exchange programme. (10) From Dr. Ho Tim HK$4,000 to provide two scholarships of $2,000 each for students of New Asia College in 1989-90. (11) From Hong Kong & Kowloon Electrical Appliances Merchants Association Ltd. a further donation of HK$40,000 towards an endowment fund for the award of two scholarships to students in electronics. (12) From the Incorporated Trustees of Hsin Chong - K.N. Godfrey Yeh Education Fund HK$24,500 to provide seven bursaries of $3,500 each for needy students. (13) From Kwong On Bank Jubilee Fund Ltd. an annual donation of HK$60,000 to provide six scholarships of $10,000 each for students, three of the Faculty of Business Administration and three of the Department of Economics. (14) From Mrs. Lai Tong Sun Alice HK$ 1,000 to provide a scholarship for a student of New Asia College in 1989-90. (15) From Ms. Liu Qing-zeng HK$85,690 for the establishment of an endowment fund to provide an annual scholarship for students of New Asia College. (16) From Morning Star Holdings Limited HK$20,000 to provide two awards for students participating in an exchange programme with the University of British Columbia, Canada in the first semester of 1990-91. (17) From eight New Asia College alumni HK$ 15,000 to provide two scholarships for students of New Asia College in 1989-90. (18) From Sir Quo-wei Lee HK$ 10,000 to provide two scholarships of $5,000 each for students of New Asia College in 1989-90. (19) From Roche Asian Research Foundation a further donation of HK$5,000 towards an endowment fund for the award of an annual prize in psychiatry for medical students. (20) From the School of Italian Language and Cultural Studies at Siena Lit750,000 to provide a scholarship for a student to pursue summer studies at the School of Italian Language and Cultural Studies for Foreigners at Siena, Italy in 1990. (21) From the Yuk Kwan Middle School Parents & Teachers Association Ltd. HK$30,000 for the establishment of an endowment fund to provide a scholarship for an academically outstanding student of the School of Education. (22) From Associated Dairies International Limited HK$50,000 to the Department of Community and Family Medicine for research purposes. (23) From Bei Shan Tang Foundation HK$ 19,500 to the Chinese Medicinal Material Research Centre for research purposes. (24) From Cerebos Pacific Ltd. S$40,000 for research projects supervised by Prof. Y.C. Kong of the Department of Biochemistry. (25) From Chen Hsong Holdings Ltd. HK$ 100,000 for a research project undertaken by the Centre for Contemporary Asian Studies. (26) From the Croucher Foundation HK$318,000 for a research project on marine planktonic organisms in Tolo Harbour. (27) From Mr. Ding Lik Kiu HK$ 10,000 for general and research purposes of the Departnment of Clinical Oncology. (28) From EORTC Hong Kong Cancer Fund HK$90,000 for research purposes and salary payment of a research nurse at the Department of Clinical Oncology. (29) From Health and Welfare Branch, Hong Kong Government HK$ 150,000 for a study on traditional Chinese medicine undertaken by the Department of Community and Family Medicine. (30) From the Hong Kong Soya Bean Products Co. Ltd. HK$1,000,000 for food and nutrition research undertaken by the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology. (31) From the Institut de Rechercher Internationales Servier FF168,000 for a study undertaken by the Department of Clinical Pharmacology. (32) From Janssen Cilag HK$38,220 for neurological research and education purposes of the Department of Medicine. (33) From the following organizations for GI research undertaken by the Department of Medicine: (a) Janssen Pharmaceutica HK$20,000; (b) Hong Kong Society of Digestive Endoscopy HK$100,000; and (c) Astra Pharmaceuticals Sweden HK$39,000. (34) From Kodak (Far East) Ltd. HK$84,000 for a research project undertaken by Dr. Chan Sau-yan of the Department of Music. (35) From Ms. Lau Yuk Mun HK$5,000 for educational and research purposes of the Department of Surgery. (36) From Mr. Ricky Fok HK$3,000 to the Department of Operations and Systems Management for research purposes. (37) From Oriental Daily News Charitable Fund Association HK$2,100 for renal research undertaken by the Department of Medicine. (38) From Swire Loxley Ltd. HK$50,000 for a trial study on oral fenoldopam undertaken by the Department of Medicine. (39) From World Health Organization (WHO) US$21,318 for the 1990 WHO research project undertaken by the Department of Community and Family Medicine. (40) From the University of California a further donation of US$5,914 for a research project on nasopharyngeal carcinoma undertaken by the Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology.
