T h e o v e r a ll average l i v i ng area per p e r s on is 8 .3 square metres, w h i ch is s l i g h t ly s ma l l er t h an that o f the p r e v i o us year ( 9 . 2 square metres). H o w e v e r, n e a r ly 37 p e r cent o f the students d o n o t h a ve a f a v o u r a b le s t u dy environment at h o m e. T h is m ay p a r t ly e x p l a in w hy close t o 72 p e r cent o f t he r e s p o n d e n ts h a ve e x p r e s s ed a s t r o ng desire f o r c a m p us a c c o mm o d a t i o n . Choice of Programmes, Expectation, Extracurricular Activities As m a ny as 95 per c e nt o f the students s u r v e y ed h a ve c h o s en t h e ir m a j or p r o g r a mm es o u t o f interest, a n d s ome 70 per cent b e l i e ve that t h e ir c h o s en m a j or w i ll l e ad t o a p r o m i s i ng career. E x a m i n a t i on results h a ve p l a y ed a part in the c h o i ce o f m a j o rs f or 5 7 .3 per c e nt of the respondents, a nd 20.5 p e r c e nt o f t h em h a ve b e en i n f l u e n c ed b y f a m i ly e x p e c t a t i o n s .
