Faculty Societies , Departmental Societies , Hostel Resident Associations Through 60 faculty/departm ental societies and 16 hoste l resident associations, students learn to lo o k after th e ir ow n w e ll-be ing and organize d iffe ren t types o f cu ltu ra l and recreational activities to prom ote intellectual and physical grow th. Non-residential Halls Four non-residential halls lo o k after the needs o f comm uting students so that they can also enjoy a fu ll campus life . T ypical fa cilitie s in a non-residential h a ll include newspapers and magazines, chess games, and h i-fi equipm ent. Academic Societies Students sharing the same academ ic interests fo rm d iffe re n t societies to p u r sue studies on specific top ics : China studies, China trade, Buddhism , as tronom y, lite ra ry w ritin g , and Japanese culture. Social Service Groups and other Interest Groups O ther students may share the same extracurricular interests or the same w ish to render vo lun ta ry service to the needy. A host o f associations such as social w o rk teams, you th service groups, choirs, Go- clubs, modern-dance groups, debating societies, karate dubs, row ing associations and archery dubs have therefore been set up. 33
