Campus B u i l d i n g to Begin A tract o f land in the Ma Liu Shui valley was soon ob tained from the govern m en t to be developed as the site o f the n ew university. Mr. I.M . Pei, an in te rn a tio n a lly renow ned architect, was in v ite d to come to H ong K ong to advise the University on the design and la you t o f the campus. He w o rk e d closely w ith D r. Szeto W a i , University A rchitect, and together they d rew up the first master developm ent p lan fo r the campus. The first b u ild in g on the new campus, the Benjam in F ran klin Centre, was com pleted in December 1968, and was used to p ro vide tem porary ac­ comm odation fo r the central offices o f the U niversity betw een 1969 and 1971.
