I n Pursuit of Excellence in Educat ional Studies Introducing The Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research of CUHK In the course of its continuing growth and development, the Faculty of Education at CUHK felt the need for a well-equipped resource centre that would promote educational studies and free scholarly enquiry, strengthen research across the faculty, and facilitate collaboration with relevant sectors of the research community at large. Support from the University and a contribution of five million dollars by a local benefactor, Mr. Tin Ka Ping, led to the inauguration of The Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research at the CUHK in September 1993, at the Ho Tim Building, within the Faculty of Education. Mission and Goals The institute was envisioned as a means to realize the Faculty of Education's many ideals on research and development. It has to help strengthen the University's role as a leading institution in educational research in Hong Kong, as a responsible unit that addresses the needs o f the teaching profession, and as an active consulting agent to international organizations, public agencies and local educational bodies. The institute has also to help the University forge close linkages w i th local schools and overseas institutions.
