45th Anniversary of Chung Chi College A s Chung Chi College steps into its 46th year , a marathon celebration spanning the whole 1996-97 academic year has been planned. The individual events — numbering an auspicious 33 in all — range from the solemn to the carnivalesque. Festivities began w i t h the 45th Founders' Day Thanksgiving Service held in the Chung Chi College Chapel on 25th October 1996. Prof S. W. Tam, director of the Open Learning Institut e of Hong Kong and former head of the college, addressed the assembly; M r George Hung, chair of the college board of trustees, and Prof. Rance P. L. Lee, head of college, presented awards and scholarships to students; M r Clarence Chang, chair of the Chung Chi College Alumni Association, presented a souvenir to the college on behalf of the association. The Student Festival, organized by the Chung Chi Student Union, followed the service. Over 200 Chung Chi staff and students flexed their muscles in the round-the-campus run, which was followed by a mass limbo dance. In the evening, over 2,500 Chung Chi alumni, staff and students dug into the Feast for Thousands, an annual carousal which has become an integral part of college celebrations. Attendance this year was an all-time high for the college. A lion dance and a beer-drinking contest helped further enliven the revelry at the Lingnan Stadium, and the evening ended wit h a tug-of-war an d an inter- department singing contest. The Alumni Association of Chung Chi College held a banquet at Hotel Furama Kempinsk i the following evening . It was attended by over 360 people — including members of the board of trustees, staff, guests, and those from overseas who had f l own in solely for the celebrations.
