1956-1996 Uni ted College Celebrates 40th Bi rthday To celebrate the 40th anniversary of United College, a 'Scholar's Night' was organized, the f i r s t college history was published, and a grand banquet was held. The college campus was adorned with a newly constructed cascade, five new pieces of sculpture, and a mural inscribed w i t h the college motto. T h e r e wasalso the traditional Feast for T h o u s a n d s on the United campus. " Scholars ' Night' The twelve-table banquet was held on 3rd May at the Ho ng Ko ng Countr y Club. Amongst the distinguished guests were Prof. Ma Lin, Prof Charles K. Kao and Prof Arthur K.C. Li, all members of United College who also have the distinction o f being the second, third, and fourth vice-chancellors of the University respectively. Mr. Shum Choi-sang, chair o f the college board o f trustees. Prof C.Y. Lee, head of the college, and the Rev. Cheung King-man, representative of the A l umni As s o c i a t i o n o f Un i t e d College, gave speeches before dinner . The meal was sprinkled w i t h a lot of reminiscing; there was a presentation of historical slides, followed by a quiz o n the slides and a light- hearted talk show o n the quirk s and eccentricities of the three vice-chancellors by their friends and former colleagues.
