Prof. Lam Kwok -wa i Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Prof. Lam K w o k - w a i has b e e n a p p o i n t e d p r o f e s s or o f ophthalmology and visual sciences from 23rd March 1996. Prof. Lam obtained a BS degree from East Texas Baptist College i n the United States in 1957 and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963. He then wo r k wit h the National Institute of Health, first as postdoctoral fellow and then as visiting scientist. From 1966 to 1973 he worked for the Retina Foundation. Thereafter he joined Albany Medical College as research associate professor, and wa s promoted to research professor and director of its Ophthalmic Biochemistry Laboratory in 1980. Prior to his appointment at The Chinese University, Prof. Lam was professor and director of the Ophthalmic Biochemistry Laboratory at the University of Texas Health Science Centre at San Antonio fo r 14 years. Prof. Lee Sik-yum Professor of Statistics Prof. Lee Sik-yum has been appointed professor of statistics from 1st April 1996. Prof. Lee graduated from CUHK with a B.Sc. in 1972 and obtained his MA, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1974, 1976 and 1977 respectively . During his postgraduate studie s at UCLA, Prof. Lee served as a research assistant in the Department of Psychology and as a research biostatistician. Prof. Lee joined The Chinese University as lecturer in the Department of Mathematics i n 1977, and transferred to the Department of Statistics in 1982. He was promoted to the rank of senior lecturer in 1985 an d reader in 1990. Prof. Leung Yee Professor of Geography Prof. Leung Yee has been appointed professor of geography from 1st April 1996. Upon graduation from CUHK wit h a B.S.Sc. in 1972, Prof. Leung went to the University of Colorado in the United States where he obtained the degrees of MA in 1974, and MS and Ph.D. in 1977. Concurrent with his studies there, Prof. Leung was teaching assistant in the Department of Geography and for the Population Dynamics Programme. Prof. Leung joined The Chinese University in 1977 as lecturer in the Department of Geography. He was promoted to the rank of senior lecturer i n 1984 and reader in 1990. Profiles 35
