Prior to joining The Chinese University, he was professor at the University of British Columbia, where he served for 23 years. Prof, Clive Stewart Cockram Professor of Medicine Prof. Clive Stewart Cockram has been appointed professor of medicine from 1st October 1996. Born in 1948, Prof. Cockram received his medical education at the University of London and obtained his MB BS and MD degrees in 1973 and 1988 respectively. From 1974 to 1979, Prof. Cockram served consecutively as house physician at St. Thomas' Hospital, house surgeon at Mayday Hospital and senior house officer at Atkinson Morley's and St. George's hospitals. He rejoined St. Thomas' Hospital in 1979 as research training fellow (honorary registrar), and served as lecturer in medicine from 1981 to 1985. Prof. Cockram joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1985 as senior lecturer in the Department of Medicine, and was promoted to reader in 1991. Prof. Cockram is currently chair of the International Diabetes Federation, Western Pacific Region. Prof, Julian A.J.H. Critchley Professor of Clinical Pharmacology Prof. Julian A.J.H. Critchley has been appointed professor of clinical pharmacology from 1st October 1996. Prof. Critchley graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a B.Sc. in 1971. He received his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1976, and his MB and Ch.B. a year later. He then trained in general medicine at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. After qualifying as MRCP (UK) in 1979, he specialized in clinical pharmacology, toxicology, and renal medicine while working as a lecturer in the departments of clinical pharmacology and medicine at the University of Edinburgh. Prof. Critchley joined the University as reader in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology in 1989. He sits on many extramural committees, including the biology and medicine panel of the Research Grants Council, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, and other committees concerned with therapeutics and medicinal drugs.
