• Prof. Herbert W. Marsh, professo r of education (research) at the University of Western Sydney in Macarthur, Australia, gave a lecture on 'Students' Evaluation s of University Teaching : Implications for Improving Teaching Effectiveness' on 11th June. King, professor of surgery (head, neck and reconstructive surgery), delivered his inaugural lecture entitled ‘Head and Neck — Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Past, Present and Future' on 26th September. O t h e r Lec t u r es • Prof. Per Venge of the University of Uppsala Hospital in Sweden was invited by the Department of Chemical Pathology to give t wo talks entitle d 'Monitoring Allergic I n f l amma t i on' and 'Research Frontiers in Cellular Allergy' on 23rd and 29th March respectively. • World-renowned architect Dr. Ken Yeang was i n v i t ed b y t he D e p a r t me n t of Architecture to deliver a public lecture o n high-rise buildings from the bioclimatic point of view on 28th March. • Prof. J.A. Scott Kelso of Florida Atlantic University was invited by the Department of Psychology to deliver a public lecture on 'Coordination and Complexity' on 19th April. • Prof. Yang X i o n g - l i , director of the Shanghai Institute of Physiology, was invited by the Department of Physiology to deliver the first T.P. Feng Memorial Lecture e n t i t l ed ' I d e n t i f i c a t i o n a n d Characterization of Amino Acid Receptor Subtypes i n the Outer Retina' on 26th April. • Prof. Zhu Chen, r enowned molecular biologist and director of the Shanghai Institute of Hematology at Shanghai Rui- J i n H o s p i t a l , was i n v i t e d b y the Department of Clinical Oncology to speak on 'Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia : A Model of Differentiation and Apoptosis Induction Therapy o f Human Cancer' on 26th September. • Prof. Yeh Chia-ying, emeritus professor of the Depa r tment of Asian Studies, University of British Columbia, was invited by United College as its Distinguished Visiting Scholar of 1996-97 to deliver three News in Brief 41
