Dedication Ceremony of the Charles Kuen Kao Bui lding I n commemoration of Prof. Charles Kao's vice- chancellorship at The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1987 to 1996, the University Council has named the north wing of the Science Centre as the Charles Kuen Kao Building. The dedication ceremony took place on 7th November 1996. Officiating at the function were Prof. Kao and chairman of the University Council Sir Quo- wei Lee. On behalf of the University community. Sir Quo-wei expressed gratitude to Prof. Kao for his contributions to The Chinese University. He said. Tor the past nine years. Prof. Kao has steadfastly pursued excellence. He has played a significant role in advancing scientific research at the University as well as in raising the University's international standing.' The north wing of the Science Centre comprises five storeys with total functional space measuring 5,000 square metres. It provides teaching, research and administrative facilities for the departments of physics, biochemistiy, and chemistry. Prof Kao worked in the building from 1970 to 1974 when he was a teacher in the then Department of Electronics (now renamed Department of Electronic Engineering). • Prof. and Mrs. Kao after the dedication ceremony.
