profiles Appointment of Academic/Administrative Staff Prof. Edith Lau Ming-chu Associate Professor, Department of Community and Family Medicine Prof. Lau graduated with MB BS degrees from the University of Hong Kong in 1979 and joined the Department o f Community and Family Medicine of The Chinese University as lecturer in 1982. She has since dedicated herself to the development of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in public health, specialist training in community medicine, and research in the epidemiology of chronic diseases, particularly osteoporosis, in the aging Hong Kong population. Prof. Lau was promoted to senior lecturer rank in August 1996. Prof. Lau is currently Chief Censor of the College of Community Medicine at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and an examiner of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine in the UK. She also serves on the boards of several research societies i n the field of osteoporosis. Prof. Anthony P. C. Yim Associate Professor, Department of Surgery Born in Hong Kong, Prof. Yim completed his undergraduate studies at Cambridge University with double First Class Honours in 1981. He then entered the Clinical School of Oxford University on the prestigious Hobson Memorial Scholarship and obtained a medical degree wit h high distinction in 1984. After two years' training under Prof. Sir Peter Morris and Prof. Sir Magdi Yacoub in England, Prof. Yim enrolled in the surgical residency training programme at the University of Chicago i n 1986. He then received cardiothoracic training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and became a clinical fellow of the Harvard University Medical Chinese University Bulletin Spring . Summer 1997 4 0
