Prof. Lai Pan-chiu Assistant Professor, Department of Religion Prof. Lai graduated from The Chinese University with a BA in religious studies i n 1985, and an M.Div. degree in 1987. He furthered his studies at King's College, University of London, specializing in Christian doctrine and history. He received his Ph.D. in 1991. Prior to joining the University in August 1996, Prof. Lai taught at various universities including his alma mater King's College, Middlesex University, and Brunei University College, and pastored a Chinese church in London. Prof. Jianfa Shen Assistant Professor, Department of Geography Prof. Shen graduated from East China Normal University in Shanghai with a B.Sc. in geography in 1983 and an M.Sc. in quantitative geography i n 1986. In 1991, he went to England to conduct doctoral research at the London School of Economics, and obtained his Ph.D. in 1994. Between 1994 and 1996 Prof. Shen worked as researcher and lecturer in the Migration Unit of the Department of Geography at the University of Wales, Swansea, and as research fellow in the School of Geography at the University of Leeds for a census research funded by the Social and Economic Research Council of the UK. Prof. Shen's research interests span various fields, including spatial population modelling and migration analysis, GIS wit h socio-economic applications, population control and employment policies, and urban and regional development. He is particularly interested i n their relevance to China and Europe. Prof. Shen is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a member of its study groups on population geography and quantitative methods. He is also a corresponding membe r of the Commission on Mathematical Models of the International Geographic Union. Prof. Shen's publications include Internal Migration and Regional Population Dynamics in China a n d Dynamic Analysis of Spatial Population Systems.
