The first batch of one hundred undergraduates will be posted in various companies, research centres, and government offices in Beijing, Tianjin, and Shenzhen for six weeks this summer. Another hundred students will attend a month-long training programme on contemporary China. As the economy of Hong Kong becomes increasingly integrated with that of China, more and more employers are looking fo r people with knowledge and experience of business operations on the mainland. The internship will therefore give the participants an edg e over other graduates when they enter the job market. HK$2,000,000 has been earmarked for the programme, with a projected cost of HK$48,000 per student. Over 300 students have applied to joi n the programme, and they will be shortlisted on the basis of their academic performance, Putonghua proficiency, and references. S t udent Exchange A c t i v i t i e s Chung Chi Students Get a Glimpse of Life in Taiwan Chung Chi students paid a visit to Taipe i from 28th December 1996 t o 4th January 1997 following a visit by students from National Taiwan University to the college last August. The exchange, supported by the Chung Chi College Board of Trustees, is a part of a student visitor programme between the two institutions. S t u d e n t s of C h u n g Chi College and N a t i o n a l T a i w a n U n i v e r s i t ya the Taipei M u n i c i p a l Zoo Accompanied by Prof. Raymond Yeung, the 10 students discussed aspects of Chinese society in the two regions w i t h their counterparts in National Taiwan University. They also visited relevant organizations to further their understanding of Taiwanese society. Budding Scholars from Korea Share Views on Reunification Seven undergraduate students from Kangwon National University (KNU), Korea, visited United College from 11th to 18th February 1997 as part of the Budding Scholars Exchange Programme jointly organized by the college and KNU. At a public seminar entitled 'How Woul d Young People Harmonize After Reunification i n Korea and Hong Kong', they presented their research findings on the Korean situation while Prof. Byron Weng of the Department of Government and Public Administration at the University spoke on 'The Significance and Feasibility of One Country,Two Systems'.
