A r t Exh i b i t i ons Fine Arts 40th Anniversary Faculty Show To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the University's Departmen t of Fine Arts exhibited the works of its studio course teachers at the west-wing galleries of the Art Museum from31st January to 9th March . The exhibition was coorganized by the Art Museum. The exhibits included oil and acrylic paintings, calligraphy , seal-engravings printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and mixed media pieces. The 10 teachers who were involved were Cheung Yee, Lee Yun-woon, Cheng Ming, Lui Chung- kwong, Chan Yuk-keung, Tong Kam-tang, Chan Tak-hei, Chung Tai-fu, Caroline Cheng, and Wong Kai-yu. The aim of the exhibition was to demonstrate the balanced and comprehensive curriculum of the department's studio courses, and to enhance communication between the department and the public. Ambrose K i n g g i v i ng an address at the o p e n i n g ceremony Calligraphy Exhibition The exhibition 'Chinese Handwriting in Hong Kong: Gleanings of a Hundred Years' was held from 22nd March to 25th May in the west-wing galleries of the Art Museum. The exhibition featured 70 calligraphic pieces produced by some 60 eminen t figures during their stay in Hong Kong since the end of the last century. The works on display were classified into three groups. The first group was calligraphy by late Qing literati such as Wen C o u p l e t in seal s c r i p t by Deng E r y a ( 1 8 8 4 - 1 9 5 4 ) , lent by Bei Shan Tang Chinese University Bulletin Spring • Summer 1997 52
